[08:58] Steve: It's an RX7

[08:58] Joe: VERY NICE

[08:58] Joe: I LIKE THE ROTARY ENGINES.

[08:58] Steve: Haha, how's the commercial go?

[08:58] Steve: Piston engines go 'boing boing boing'

[08:59] Joe: I HAVEN'T SEEN THAT ONE

[08:59] Steve: Admittedly that was before my time.

[08:59] Steve: Say, 1979

[08:59] Steve: ish

[08:59] Joe: HEY, I WAS JUST BEING BORN THEN

[08:59] Steve: Yeah, I was negative two

[09:00] Joe: NO KIDDING

[09:00] Joe: HOW MANY MILES ON THE RX-7?

[09:00] Joe: THEY NEED A REBUILD EVERY 60K

[09:00] Steve: Uh, I think I turned 75,600 this weekend

[09:00] Steve: Yeah, I had it done at 52k

[09:00] Joe: NICE

[09:00] Steve: blew her up racing a viper

[09:01] Steve: I'm pushing 14.5psi on a reman now

[09:01] Joe: MAZDA MAKES A BIG ASS ROTARY, IT'S A 6.0.

[09:01] Steve: what?

[09:01] Steve: Yer crazy

[09:02] Steve: that would be a BIG motor

[09:02] Joe: THEY MADE EM BACK IN THE DAY AND PUT THEM IN THERE LeMANS CARS.

[09:02] Steve: Nah, that was a four rotor!

[09:03] Steve: brb, smoke break

[09:03] Joe: COOL

[09:16] Joe: I'M LOOKING FOR THE ARTICLE ABOUT THE 6.0 ROTARY. I'LL SEND YOU THE LINK WHENI FIND IT, YOU'LL BE AMAZED.

[09:16] Steve: Cool,

[09:16] Joe: IT WAS AN AIRCRAFT ENGINE THAT WAS DROPPED INTO A CAR

Any truth to that?

BrandonDrecksage 07-27-2005 10:24 AM

maybe they measured the displacement differently.

Edna 07-27-2005 10:31 AM

true, you did take a smoke break.....

nismo convert 07-27-2005 10:40 AM

that was the 787b i think it was the 26b so thats 2.6L

Sinful7 07-27-2005 01:10 PM

Holy crap - Curtiss Wright made a 31500cc single rotor that made 782bhp at 1525 rpm.

nopistons94 07-27-2005 04:57 PM

seriously?

Sinful7 07-27-2005 06:15 PM

yes

Sinful7 07-27-2005 06:18 PM

see:

nopistons94 07-27-2005 06:58 PM

that **** never ran right

defprun 07-27-2005 07:01 PM

i dont remember any rotary with 1000hp running correctly.

defprun 07-27-2005 07:02 PM

at least for a long period of time...

nopistons94 07-27-2005 07:12 PM

ive been thinking about putting this 6.0 into my car though, but I'll need a t-900000000 to run with it , I'll need a big screen so i dont suck in people walking down the street when i boost

89 Rag 07-27-2005 09:43 PM

I wanna make a coffee table outta that big ass rotor!

I'm sure you can pick one up one Ebay for like, $5.

PhoenixDownVII 07-27-2005 11:23 PM

Many people think that doubling the litre's on a Rotary can tell you the equivalent piston powerplant it has. I.E. Our 1.3 Litre motor's are similiar to a 2.6 litre 4/5/6 cyllander car. 10 psi on 2.6 litre piston can probably do 255 no? Who knows...

Anyways, take 2.6 (787B) and double it and it's 5.2, round up to 6 litre's...and...I'm gay? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

Matters what engine you look at honestly. The engine's in the srt-4 impressed me, but I later realized it is the same engine that is in the 2005 Chrsyler GT Cruiser. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

youre talking about the one in the front right, but were talking about the one in the back

That one would make a pretty big rotary clock.

The E-shaft would bust your balls.

Here it is during assembly:

You could put your foot through the exhaust port.

I bet that housing would flex visibly on the power strokes..

Shane.Trammell 07-29-2005 01:07 PM

a two or 3 rotor of that would be great for a boat

CletusFD3S 07-29-2005 01:09 PM

maybe not that big of a boat but something pretty big

Sinful7 07-29-2005 02:25 PM

I wonder how big the Hitachi's are on that sucker.

Think of a multi-rotor. I don't think they could make an e-shaft that big.

i dunno some of the diesel engines out there are ginormous, someone posted picks of a 10 cylinder diesel that was in some huge boat or something on here a while ago, it looked like you could walk across the pistons.

Where are you guys finding these pictures???

Sinful7 07-29-2005 04:39 PM

that block was machined from a single piece of aluminum. Can you imagine the CNC machine that made it?!? Holy jebus.

that i did not know, id be amazed at the size of the raw aluminum block first, then seeing the machine that cuts it id be even more amazed.

Haha anyone else remember Colin's photochopped turbo version? Where is that?

Mark

psyclo 07-30-2005 12:41 AM

I belive that huge rotary was meant for an industrial generator. 600hp at 1500 RPM or somthing, I remember reading about it a while ago.
