The count to 3 thing only works if there's an *** whipping waiting after 3. A time out might work, but don't send the kid to their room...there's plenty of **** to do there. Send them to the garage to huff paint or something.
Okay, so I'm being sarcastic. In seriousness, the one thing that bothers me most about parenting is empty threats. If your kids know that you'll threaten to punish them without following up, they'll walk all over you forever.
