I'm shopping for some new rear tires for my 18's, but I can't decide wheter I should go with 255/35-18 's which are a perfect fit with an 8 inch rim and are super close to the diameter of the stock rims, OOORR go with like a 275/35-18 that will give me another inch in width, but is also .4" taller.

What would you guys do? Do you think that haveing the sidewall flared a little would decrease the performance or would it be unnoticable??

I was thinking 255, but a drag racer at our work has been trying to convince me to go with 275's.

Any info would be appreciated.

it wont fit, but if you do get it to fit, you dont have to worry about curb rash on your rims.... lol

I told him he could squeeze it on there but he will get a lot of sidewall roll and will sacrifice stability. The car will roll back and forth in the rear.

255's will be nice.

yes but the 275's are only an inch wider than the 255's. Half inch on each side, I was mainly curious if anyone had done it before.

I'm sure it would fit, but jim had brought up the sidewall issue that had me worried.

If it was a smaller rim(16") then it would work. Dragon's 20B is like that(16 X 8 with 275 Nitto's on the back). But with the larger rim, it won't fit right. Also, doing a large sidewall is primarily a drag racing thing to help with torque shock...but probably not a good idea if you drift/autocross. I personally run a 17 X 9 with 275(nitto 555r) and have seen 315's fit on the same sized rim...not a pretty sight...

makes sense, considering I'm not going to have that much side wall to begin with (35's) it doesn't give me that much room to mess with width wise.

thanks for your guys's input 255's it is!

now just have to pick the tire. I was thinking the yoko avs es100's, or maybe the kuhmo supra 712's. What do you guys think?
