i was hesitant to tell a story about some "friends" I know, but im going to tell it and maybe it will clear up my point.
A long time ago some people I know were involved in illegal things, then there was those of us who were not. Those involved in illegal things were being investigated, obviously without them knowing, being that we had been seen at thier house, out in public, and obviously phone calls back and forth- some of us were obviously being watched as well- of course no one knew this at the time and those of us not doing anything illegal had no reason to be looking out for it.
It was a Monday night and there is a knock on my door, I open the door and very politely the detectives introduce themselves, they ask if they can come in and talk to me about some people I know, I let them in of course, honestly I figured that someone on the block might have been robbed and maybe they were asking everyone questions- what did I know?
Then they inform me about this investigation and who they had in custody because they have them on video and audio doing illegal things, they ask me if I know anything about thier dealings- to which I replied no, of course I knew ABOUT it, I just was not involved nor did I ever speak about it with them.
They ask if they can look around- I tell them sure and even asked them if they wanted something to drink, they walked quickly into each room and shook my hand and left. That was the last I ever had to deal with them.
Now one of my friends decided he was not going to let them in, he told them if he was under arrest to arrest him, and if they wanted to search his house to get a warrant. They did not say "we want to search your house", they asked if they could speak to him.
The story im told from him went that one unmarked car sat outside his house while the other 2 left, they were back in about 2 hours, with thier warrant. They served the warrant, and placed him under arrest as well, so he sat there in handcuffs while they looked through EVERYTHING.
Brought him down to the precinct, then eventually let him go and obviously no charges were brought against him.
Sooooooooo who was right? Who did the right thing?
I say choose your battles thats all. Im the king of my house and I got nothing to hide which is why I dont want someone coming in and disrespecting it.

If they ask to speak to me, I'll pull a chair out on the front lawn, and a couple chairs for them, and offer them drinks. If they wanted to "look around", I would, politely as possibly, decline. If a judge sees it fit to issue a warrant, fine, they can cuff me and look around.
The thing that scares me are the supposed no-knock searches that happen, where they kick the ******* door in and shoot your dog when it looks at them surprised.

they did not say to me "can we come in and speak to you and look around", they asked to come in and speak, after speaking with me for a little bit as they got up to leave they asked "do you mind if we look around quick", so I let them.
My ordeal took 7-9 minutes, versus my other friend that was about 9 hours.

Good man, it's your house and your family has the right to feel safe and to have some privacy in it.

i grew up in south central Los Angeles, you live with a very real distrust of the law enforcement due to the blatant misconduct on their behalf in these communities. **** happens all the time that would not happen in other communites, and like baldy said, you learn to play by the rules and politely stand for your rights. If they feel the need to come back so be it. You learn to cooperate in a way that doesn't intrude with your rights. Good ol' LAPD..
I have had some good and bad experiences with them, as well as family members of mine. Its a rough call, plus out here there have recently been home invasion by people dressed as cops. Its a rough decision when they come knock on your door.

We have a very close friend right here in port st lucie with a multi million dollar lawsuit against the police dept, you would not believe the **** they put him through. Black man driving a mazerati must be a dealer right?

A hell of a lot of people that bitch about the police turn a blind eye to dealers and dirtbags in their own neighbourhoods. Instead of buying bars for your windows do something about it.
Start blowing their heads off yourself and there would be no excuse for these bloated law enforcement departments everyone complains about.
