How much did they set you back. At the time I think they were about 500 a rim back then, if I remember correctly. Tim the cost per rim for them new is about 750 each for the front and about 900 each for the rear. |

I'm in... fiberglass for me unless it can be made of the same material as the front R1 spoiler.
The diffsuer will be made in fiberglass and possible carbon fiber. I can't promise the availability of CF one until we try to make one after the mold is done. Group Buy Details: 1. Deadline: 2-28-04 2. Number of buyers needed: 10 or more 3. Price: $350 for the fiberglass one. $550-650 for the CF one if it can be made. The definite price for the CF one will be announced after we try to make the first CF one. $50 off if there is someone to donate the diffuser to make the mold. 4. To join: $150 non-refundable deposit is required. Please make sure you really want it before you join. Your deposit will be refunded ONLY IF the group buy does not go through, i.e. not enough group buy buyers by the deadline. 5. To make a deposit: Please paypal $150 to rotaryextreme@aol.com. Put the subject as "Diffuser Group Buy Deposit" Please include your day time contact number in the message area. 6. Shipping: Shipping will be most likely via truck freight. The pro diffuser was too big to be shipped via UPS or Fed Ex. I expect the same for this diffuser. Shipping will be paid to the freight company directly. We don't collect shipping in advance because we don't make money on shipping. 7. ETA: We will import the diffuser from Japan once we have 7 buyers, unless there is someone to donate the diffuser. The production of the mold will begin once we reach 10 buyers. The mold will take about 2 weeks to finish and after the mold is done. 3-4 diffusers can be made per week, depending on the work load. 8. Your first name initial and last name will be posted here after you make a deposit. I will post update whenever a buyer puts down the deposit so everyone will know where we are at. 9. Final payment: The balance is due by March 5th. If you have any questions, please email me at rotaryextreme@aol.com or post here. Thank you. Chuck Huang |
Chuck,
You know how much shipping would be to Okinawa, Japan? Or am I better off getting this from Jason at JT-Imports? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif |
Is there any chance to speed this up or get this started sooner ?
Three months seems like such a long wait https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif . |

Group buy buyer list:
1. R. Weber a.k.a. gcthree |
Come on already! Everybody is 'interested' but, as usual, there's no takers...and you've got Jason in the group buy section trying to make a case for original at $625!! At $350, this is the right price. Of course, Chuck, this will fit like an original part, right?
|
deadline is not for another 2 months.... dont worry we'll find people
|
How much is the deposit? I must have missed it.
|
Never mind... I see it now. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

im in fl right now well see how much i spend for the next week and a half but im about 85% sure im gonna get in on this. how far under the car does this thing go. i realizer the dynamics of a diffuser but im still not sure how long it has to be. anyway if soneone could post a pic of one off the car that would be great. thanks a lot

The diffuser covers the fuel tank, so the venturi tunnel begins just aft of the rear axle- theoretically long enough to generate some downforce dependant on the proximity of the tunnel sides to the ground, and of course, the vehicle speed.
Regarding FikseRXSeven's admonition not to worry, we will need another 7 deposits beyond mine to make this thing fly. I'm worried. |

looking at the pic, what is the scuff mark that runs across the diffuser? Where it dragged once? What is the original made of? I put maybe 4000 miles on my car a year, so I don't have as many opportunities to drag it on driveways etc.

Tim the authentic RE diff is made of FRP: http://members.shaw.ca/wankelhed/FunRoom2.jpg the diff sits pretty high so u will not scrape it...if u do then u'll also need a new exhaust. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png http://www.encompass-tech.com/photogallery/M3_05.jpg |
Just curious, how much does it weigh?
|
Also, how does it mount to the car?
|
Any chance the price of the CF version might drop?
|
I finally got the carbon fiber MS RX8 rear bumper done and my cost was way more than I expected.
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/msrx8/mscfrb-1.jpg http://www.rotaryextreme.com/msrx8/mscfrb-2.jpg The RE Amemiya rear diffuser is even harder to make so I have decided not to offer the CF version. Sorry about it. Chuck Huang |
Could someone answer the questions I had?

#2) it mounts with bolts. I used most of the stock bolts that were used to hold the "lip" that was originally there. For the longer ones, I used whatever I could find lying around. The inner attachment points uses screws too, the holes are already there (infront of the gas tank). For those you'll prob have to drill through the diffuser. The rear-fender area is supposed to be riveted, but I used screws. Hope that helps |

Total deposits so far?......exactly ONE
What happened to all those 'interested' parties? I know, I know, don't worry, but at the rate the deposits are flying in here, this buy is going nowhere. Come on, this is a an awesome additon to the 3rd gen, and the price is right. |
Maybe you all forgot? $150 deposit gets this going, otherwise, you'll need to pay double for the actual part- which is what has kept the part off my car in the first place.
|
The deposit deadline is February 28th. That's over a month away. Calm down, please. As for myself, I'm waiting on the IRS.
|
It would seem to me that the sooner we factually have enough buyers, the sooner Chuck gets going with this project. So, sitting around and waiting another 2 months makes no sense. Unless we do not really have enough buyers- you don't have to buy it now, just put a deposit down to back-up your interest.
As one who has put down a non-refundable deposit based on posts (such as yours), I have every right to be anxious about this group buy. It's the first time I've gotten in on one, and forgive me, but I have this feeling that I can kiss the $150 goodbye. |
