Ok, after reading Ken's post on the other forum and knowing that a bunch of us need major tuning... I decided to call Steve and ask him to come to the tristate to have a tuning session. Steve agreed to come up but needs a minimum of 5 cars..

Dates: June 27 and 28, I reserved the 29th so Steve can come to RotorFest

So here is the info that Steve and I discussed...

- Minimum of 5 cars at $300 per car and can do 5 - 8 cars a day

- Tuning will be done on the street (vosko already has a place in mind)

- Steve will be all the necessary equipment for tuning (datalogit, wideband etc...)

- Tuning is available for any rotaries with a programmable ECU (haltech, pfc etc..., 1st gen, 2nd gen etc...)

- A pre-payment of $300 a week before is mandatory which is June 19th

Here is Ken's post on their tuning session w/ Steve

So who is in? Questions?

Here is the list so far that are definate

1. Jay - JaySpec7 (not paid)

2. Jehan - FourtyOunce (not paid)

3. Jon - Vosko (not paid)

4. Jay - turboVR6 (not paid)

5.

Also I need you to post your setups so I can put it together and send it to Steve...

email it to jay@jayspec7.com

Year and Model

Engine - stock/ported etc...

ECU - PowerFC/Haltech/Motec etc...

Fuel - Pump/Injectors etc....

Other - Intake/Downpipe/FMIC/Catback etc...

If i missed anything, i'll keep you guys updated and please if you have any questions, let me know...

Jay,

That's great. You will be very happy once he is done. Like I said at Ken's post. I was not happy with how my car was running after tuned by Dave. My $300 was well spent.

Just make sure everyone pays in advance. I had two guys back out. Man it sucks to be stuck with extra bill.

i wonder if he could do north jersey one day and south jersey the next... i have 5 cars around me that could use a little *help* with an e6k and a few with PFC (those cars not all the way back together yet, and not sure if they will be on the date)

hmmm I can bring that up depending how many cars where have closer to northern NJ... since we have PA, NJ, NY and CT.... northern NJ is a central place.... it's definitally an option though... I need to see how many are definate with payments... I'll keep everyone posted

JaySpec7 06-13-2003 06:35 AM

if you guys are ready and want to make payment... please paypal me a NON REFUNDABLE deposit of $300.00 plus 3% paypal charge to jay@jayspec7.com.... or if you want to send me a money order or bank check, email me for details...

I'm not making any money on this... i'm just handling the money for Steve since pre payment is mandatory.... If your concerned about sending me money, I'm sure many members on this forum can assure the security of your payment...

yeah see if a second day can be added for the southern guys. maybe if some MD, PA, DE guys want to come, it will cut about 2 HRS off of their trip. if a south jersey/central jersey day can not be done, you can count out my 5-8 cars i would contribute to geting enough people.... hell we have enough people as it is and will just set up another time. we have a shop w/ lifts and tools, a track 10 minutes away and a dyno in a barn close by we can schedule time on also. i *think* we have everything required right here. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

rxrotary2_7 06-13-2003 08:37 AM

what is his email? i am sure with his vast knowledge of not only rotary engines he can do DSM's too, right? i am sure i can get 4 or 5 (maybe more) of them localy too. i think i may just set up a seperate South jersey day at another time if you cant do it this time.

Toy 06-13-2003 08:37 AM

I'm interested if you have room for one more...are those dates definate? I can make it on the 28th.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

i also don't have a separate bung for the wideband sensor...can we just put that in place of the stock o2 sensor during tuning?

Yes, Steve can tune any car running an aftermarket ECU but you have to consult with him on the details... call Gotham Racing to see what he can do...

rxrotary2_7 06-13-2003 08:42 AM

cool. thanks for doing the initial legwork Jay

that is an idea.... we could just all meet at etown and tune at the track.... hmmm then we could measure tuning improvements https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Silver Ninety Three 06-13-2003 09:55 AM

I talk to Steve awhile ago about comming down to tune some cars after I saw how good mine ran with his tuning. Then Jehan called me the other day asking about this so I figured I'd set it up.

Toy, you can temporarily take out the stock 02 sensor for the tuning. It is only used under cruising conditions for fuel economy anyway.

It's definately a good idea to do a baseline benchmark. I used my Vericom computer.

www.vericom.org

I turned 113mph in 1/4 before tuning and 117mph with 200 lbs more weight in the car after tuning at low boost setting(15psi).

Turned out to be 20+% more power.

I think once your well organized event is completed and the results are posted many other areas of the country will want to do something like this.

I'm pleased I was able to get the ball rolling with my post on the big forum.

Jon, can you find out... can we use their track for the day or what not... there may be events depending on what time this happens... I know there are regular events on Friday... I don't want to have to make a run.. then have to wait and wait to get another run....

turbovr6 06-13-2003 10:09 AM

Jay and I discussed the whole E-town thing, but there are 2 problems..

1 if we go on a test and tune night, we will be there forever and lucky to get 2 runs per car

2. if we rented the track, well that would be a lot of $$ to split between 10 or so people

vosko 06-13-2003 10:12 AM

we could try and rent out island. if we have ten people. its not that bad maybe extra $100 for each person and you get unlimited runs and the track for the entire day https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

We are not lucky, Kan lives in texas. If you can get 5 guys in your area to put up #300 each, I'm sure he'd fly up there and tune for you too.

what is the microtech going in ? your FD ?

JaySpec7 06-13-2003 01:33 PM

UPDATE..

Steve can tune any car running Power FC, Haltech, AEM and Motec... he can to any others but needs some info and maybe a copy of the software to get an overview... he is not familiar with Microtech but he will look into it... if you do have this system please email or call him to make arrangements..

Also, I'm going to be collection all the money and will give the total to Steve when the time comes, so please send me your payments to reserve your spot... payments are non refundable... PM or email me for info...

There are concerns about conditions with motors blowing up during tuning... when Steve will not tune any rotary with over 60,000 miles or if he notices that it's a hurt motor... if need be, he will conservatively tune it... Steve will not be tuning to get every last HP, but will tune to get everything running as smooth and reliable as possible. If you choose to tune it to get the maximum amount of power and get every last HP, then you are liable and at your own risk...

As for people in the southern part of NJ, Steve is willing to add another day to take a trip down... Might as well do as many while he's here to save on travel costs... so all you guys down in south jersey, please contact me either by email or PMs... and I'll give you my number if need be...

I think that's it for now... I'll let you guys know if I get any more info...

Jay

hey y'all. add me up as interested in a south jersey area, i'm just outside philly. also, do you think its worth it if you're still running stock turbos? i'm hitting the dyno on the 21st and if the results are not to my liking i'd pony up for this in a heartbeat. i was tuned at kdr and while i love em some posts have made me nervous, even with the car running very well. since i don't have datalogit/wideband this seems like a good idea.

here are my mods, would appreciate opinions on whether this is worthwhile or not

kdr street port, compression is 8s across the board with about 400mmHg+ vacuum

supra fuel pump, 1200cc inj

pettit cc2 IC, pettit intake, dp, hi-flo cat, rb exhuast

ported wastegate on stock turbos, recently rebuilt

power fc running 2 maps, .9 and .8 bar

think thats all the relevant stuff. thanks
