Turbo placement

G'day guys I need to move the turbo to allow for the steering rod, a mate wants to move it forward and out, but another bloke has recommended to try and centre it over the ports with equal length runners. I can move it either way but want to move it the right way. Can anyone suggest the best place and reasons why,

the typical japanese turbo placement is to put the turbo up by the air pump, this gives room for the steering shaft.



however since you don't have the stock sheetmetal to deal with, id be tempted to move the turbo back so its centered, the steering column would probably go over the manifold...
