Here's the recipient, my '73 Datsun 1200 Coupe:

The donor will be a wrecked '79 RX7 I just bought.

One small wrinkle in the swap will be I am also converting it to RHD.

Will post pics of the donor engine soon. Should be test-fitting it in a few weeks.

Mainly just to be different and I thought it would be cool. You don't see hardly any RHD cars on the street here, and I'm pretty sure I'd be the only RHD 1200 in the US.

FWIW, I was planning the RHD swap before I even chose an engine, otherwise I probably would not have done it. It's going to make it a bit tougher with the exhaust heat being close to the master cylinders and steering gearbox.

Also, having the exhaust under my feet may not be fun. But you probably already know that being in the UK.

1) The reason you don't see any RHD cars on your street is because you drive on the right-hand side of the road

2)I'm not from the UK

1. Ummm... I knew that reason already.

2. Sorry, my euro geography is off. I thought Ireland was part of the United Kingdom proper. Is it not?

Well it's your car, obviously you can do what you want - just seems a really pointless thing to do especially since there is no sensible reason for doing it. I only give a **** because that looks like it could be a really great car. Think of it like this; when people ask you is it imported when they see it's RHD you're gonna say no I did it myself - then when they ask why you did it what are you going to say?

And Ireland's not part of the UK, there was a war fought less than a century ago so that this could be the case.

To be honest, the only kind of people who would ask why, I probably wouldn't want to talk to anyway... I don't think any real car enthusiast (American anyway) would ask me why.

And technically, it is imported. It was just imported 32 years ago.

And do you mean in your opinion that this is somehow going to "ruin" it?

Thanks for the clarification. I won't make that mistake again.
