I figure I'll make a thread covering the installation of my cosmo 2 rotor motor to replace the s5 j-spec motor, that replaced my s4 stock turbo motor with 200k+ miles on it. Only the cosmo information will be covered here tho, I have an old thread titled "engine swap minus the bullshit" that covered the initial swap and installation of the wolf 3d, ignitor, coils, fmic, ect.
First of all a big thank you to jr from Just Racing Fabrications, for the mounts, plumbing modifications, some brackets, porting the manifolds, and letting me pick his brain for some ideas about this swap. Ok some pics to preface the swap |
Pics of throttle body before and after, ported, and modified by jr.

Jr assured me he would be able to cut the restricitons out of the exhaust sleeves with the motor in tact. He explained his procedure to me and it makes perfect sense, but I don't think I'll give away all his secrets! This is before he filled the sleeve back in with some stainless.
half done |
he's too cheap to use block off plates, so he just does this instead! Tree huggers don't look!
|
both sleeves done now, awaiting a manifold!
|
long block prettied up!
|
rear view loads of room under there
|
and what you've all been waiting for
to4r, for that ass |
jump forward in time a couple more days, and this is what the monster is becoming
doesn't seems so off balanced now |
i was worried about that big bitch radiating heat on the fuel lines just above, so i come in one day and jr had made a shield for it! looks like it means business
|
and dropped down in the car
|
pics of the trick exhaust. wastegate routed back into the downpipe and hard lines ran for the wastegate
|
apexi dual n1's "y" opened up to accept 3" pipe. This conversion is amazingly not restrictive at all, i wish i had pictures of the y before it was installed.
|
jr's trick adaption for the drivers side motor mount
|
passenger side mount, notice the chromoly brace bent around the manifold to support the outside of the mount

Looks great, when'll it be done?
Nice sig too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif Mark |

Right now I'm running a 6psi spring just because at 4500 rpm it starts creeping and gets upto ~10 psi by redline. I tried to replace the spring with a 10 psi one, hoping that it would go to 10 psi and just sit there till redline, but it starts creeping at 4500 also. Definatley sounds like the wastegate is being overwhelmed, but at this point I'd almost settle for 6psi, than to go back and have to replumb the downpipe, wastegate dump, and buy a 800 dollar wastegate. Car was never meant to be a drag car anyways. |
Take off that dump pipe and see if it helps the wastegate...
10lbs isnt even really getting into where that turbo flows. I like how more people in the import world are actually going to fabricators and getting custom stuff made. The guy who did the cage in my car is starting to do tons of import stuff. I guess that people are finally realizing that you can have work done (like the cage) custom and dont have to buy it all from a catalogue.... your car and jims are also good examples.. |
I've tried that actually, but I need to make a cap to cap off the down pipe, because when i opened that up, the less back pressure on the wastegate dump was canceled out by the less back pressure on the turbo itself, so it still crept. I'm going to redo it with the downpipe closed off. |
your motor looks awsome. im doing the conersion now. i have the motor in and turbo bolted on. upgraded T78..anyway what pully kit is it that you have on your car. i was looking for a different waterpump pully but i saw you had a whole kit. also is that a custom water filler neck on the housing... is it bought or did you guys make it. any info you have would be appreciated. thanks
