Thumbs up

My uncle has got a 63 Mini cooper(1284lbs). I've been strongly pondering puting in a 13b twin turbo into the car. But I am not sure the reality of it. After adding the motor and a couple more standard features it will prolly weight close to 1500lbs. I'm wondering if it would be worth it. The 0-60 of a 145hp mini from this era was 3.5. The difficulty of an entire drivetrain switch would also be rather interesting. Looking for ne n all input on the idea.

I could be wrong...but i don't think 0-60 was 3.5 in that era. most supercars nowadays come close to that but don't beat it. also..it would probably weigh a lil more than 1500lbs

Ok let the guru step in here.

850cc motor had 34bhp at 5500rpm 44lbf. ft at 2900 rpm

998cc motor had 39bhp at 5250rpm 52lbf. ft at 2700 rpm

1098 motor had 45bhp at 5250rpm 56lbf. ft at 2700rpm

1275 motor (carb) had 76 bhp at 5800rpm 62 lbf.ft at 4500rpm

1275 MPI (only late models) motor had 63bhp at 5500rpm 70lbf.ft at 3000rpm

1275 is as big as they come in stock form. They do bore them out to 1410 and make about 125hp. A 13B is way to big to be stuffing under the hood anyways. A single rotor would be more like it.

Oh, its true they do weigh under 1500lbs. They are almost literally a go-kart with a roof.

Yeah I know. I had seriously looked into doing something like that. With time and more money I just might.

Probably not a whole lot. But with a small turbo I don't see why 125hp or 150hp wouldn't be possible and still reliable.
