I have an 85 GSL-SE that I fear needs a new engine, and I am hoping that some of you out there might be able to help me figure out if I can use another 13B out of any later models. If it is possible, how much do I need to change over, i.e. the wiring harness, ecu, main computer, fuel pump, ect. If any of you have additional ideas about swapping over a 13BT let me know. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

Thanks, Steve

basically if you keep the gsl-se oil pan and front cover you can bolt any 13b in there. the gsl-se ecu will work with the na stuff pretty well, but if you go turbo you're gonna need something better

Thanks j9fd3s that gives me alot more options for engines. If I did want to switch the ecu, would you recommend a specific year, or aftermarket brand (I don't even know if they exist)? I'd have to switch the wiring harness as well then wouldn't I? Would you know if a 20B would fit, or am i being to ambitious?

what will fit depends ENTIRELY on how much you want to spend.

a 20B will fit, but it's not going to be a $500 project. Add another zero and multiply by two, at least...

a 12A will fit too... same with a 13B-T.

if you're going to use a second gen turbo engine I'd reccommend an aftermaket ECU, like a microtech or megasquirt.

If you just want to get the car on the road again cheaply, get a seoncd gen N/A engine, wiring harness, and ECU.

I don't think the GSL-SE ECU will work with an FC engine? but I'm not 100% sure.
