im thinking of putting one in my 86 GXL, as far as i know this is the best option to put some performance into it since its stock engine is non-turbo and from what i hear its much harder to try turbo charging it than to put in a cosmo.



anyways i found a local ad, selling for 2300 CAD$. some friends have told me these engines are hard to get, and im just wondering what the going rate is for these things.



ive also never actually seen one so i dont know what to look for in terms of the condition of the engine, and how to tell its not just a 13bt with the words cosmo grafted on it.



any help regarding these two things would be appreciated.

 

I paid $900 US for mine but i think i got lucky.



Just look for the twin turbos, wacky water pump settup, and the huge opening on the side (rear housing spark plug side) that's where the starter goes on the Cosmo on the engine side, not the tranny side. You will usually see a flex plate instead of stardard flywheel.



OH the motor mouths locations are not like a 13bt so is unique.
