Is it possible to not have to go through cold idle? Can the idle be tuned well enough where you can start the car when its cold and not have to keep your foot on the gas? What feature controls it? Its not big deal or anything, its just something that I would like to know. Let me know if im not making sense.

you have the coolant correction map, theres a temperature value defined that toggles it's use in one of the setup pages. If you are running a idle air control from the haltech (also known as bypass air control valve), it can maintain an idle for you under all the conditions including cold start. (IAC/BACV is also needed to maintain a steady idle under varying loads, like turning on AC or defroster)

so yes it's possible, but you need to tune it. my car runs like crap cold still as I have yet to start tuning the coolant correction map, it's pig rich for now.

actually, I need to correct myself.

Everything above is accurate except the temp setting to enable the coolant correction, the temp toggle is for the post start correction. In the fuel setup you have post start temp limit and post start time limit, then you have the post start map which you can tune... but this doesnt factor temperature into the equation, it is time based and only uses temp to toggle it. You would likely be tuning the coolant map to get good cold weather starting and driving before warming up.

Would more advance on the ignition help or hurt? I was able to get mine OK (not good) on cold starts by using the fuel coolant map.

I never really got mine dialed in perfectly. I always had to give the gas pedal a slight touch or two while turning the engine over while cold.

yah its a little tricky to do, you have to have a decent regular map, the primer and coolant temp maps also have to be adjusted, which is hard because once you start it its not cold anymore. it is possible to have it start with the key only and run fine

Yes. It's a function of coolant fuel correction map (as pengaru said) as well as how it correlates with your vacuum fuel maps' curves. Once both of those are set correctly, it'll idle and drive normally when cold.

I just got my BAC valve working and I'd never go back to not having it now. Here in Minnesota it's cold in the mornings now so it's nice to bump the idle up a bit to get everything up to temp a little faster. I've also noticed my plugs are staying cleaner due to the higher cold idle but that maybe a another tuning issue I'll have to tackle.
