I'm having a problem with zeroing my timing, My timing light (which is known good) only picks up the spark when I pull the wires aware from the boots. Every plug is this way. I can't get a good idle, although it seems to run and rev nicly. A little bogged at <3000 RPM. But it will pull with a load on it. I'm pretty sure I am on the RICH side, but I want to Zero my timing before I play with that.

The way I understand it:

I do NOT set the timing by turning the CAS.

I change the trigger angle?? (Currently set to 75, I have tried 65,70 and 75).

It WILL NOT IDLE. (Close... but no)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can someone recommend a GOOD cheap timing light. I have a nice Craftsman.. but it's not picking up my spark. I know this timing light works because it works on my other car just fine. I'd even like to find direct timing light (non-inductive), but they seem to be a thing of the past.

I use the cheap red one that Pep Boys sells, and it works well. It was about $20-30. You may be getting some interference, or maybe the bulb in your light is bad?

If I pull the plug boot away from the plug a little bit the Timing light works fine. This same light also works fine on my Girlfriends Honda and my other car.

That sounds like something having to do with the wires, or some other type of electrical problem.

Make sure you are running your spark plug wires far away from the CAS. Make sure there is nothing covering the wire when putting the sensor on it.
