if i go and spend the money for a halteck, i'm not gonna have enough money left for a laptop, can i use a pc in my garage, and just plug into that??

also, what are the hardware recommendations for the halteck??? i'm looking into just picking up an old laptop off of ebay.

pc in garage works, but it is nice to be able to tune and monitor on the road.

you don't need much, 486 would probably work, i'd go with anything >= pentium, for the dos e6k software anyways.

IBM comptible laptop, even a 286 will do the job with at least 1mb of ram, lol. All you'll be running is DOS anyways. Make sure it has a rs232 serial port.

yeah you can use a Desktop if you want.

Just do what I did and get a relativly cheap laptop on Ebay. Its certainly not nessicary, but like pengaru said, it is very nice to have it on the road.

You'll likely want to use a laptop, cause you'll want to be able to move when you tune!

Aren't PC's stepped down to 24 VDC anyway? You could get a cheap transformer 12 VDC -> 24 VDC

Our office uses a lot of laptops and has to get rid of old ones every couple years. If you know anyone who works at a place like that you can get them for dirt cheap and maybe even try them first.

E-Bay Armoured Laptop

Another one, cheaper, faster

Slower, cheaper
