Thumbs up

Before I purchased my 1989 gtu, the previous owner changed the tranny from an automatic to a 5 Speed. My 7 cuts out really bad at 6000 rpm. Its like the engine gets a fuel cut. I know this should not happen because i still have 2000 rpm left till i hit redline. Do any of you guys know if the auto ecu would cause this or any other problems. Thanks. I need those last few thousand rpm
