I just read that the 2004 RX8 (that I own) has the most rear wheel HP because Mazda detuned all those that followed. Is this true ??? Anyone know for sure on this ? Anyone have the numbers of the more recent years ? I'm thinking of getting out of my 04 and into an 07 for instance and am curious if there's a difference.

if i recall, they went from 238 HP to 232 HP. i doubt if there is a discernable difference on the street. actually, i can say for sure that i couldn't tell a difference because though i own a 2004, i've driven both 2006 and 2009 models.

 

There is no difference. The decrease from 238 to 232 was only from the SAE measurement standards change. The amount of power the engine makes is the same. How it was measured changed. There are rumors that the series II motors make more power but they are not rated any higher.
