I finally got my 90tII to the strip last night. IMO I think there was something wrong with there trap or the track just straight sucks!!! Here are my best two runs.....
1st run VS ? R/T .828 60' 2.411 1/8 9.821 mph 74.87 1000 12.650 1/4 15.065 mph 93.50 2nd run VS 5.0 stang R/T 1.244 1.156 60' 2.415 2.872 1/8 9.837 10.835 mph 74.81 69.97 1000 12.683 13.855 1/4 15.096 16.383 mph 93.60 89.41 Well those were my best two runs and it got worse after that. Here are my worse two runs. Oh btw my mods are N1, profec B( 10psi), air intake, fcd, air/ fuel guage, boost guage, turbo timer. I know some of these don't increase my power but they help with answering questions. 1st run VS turbo talon AWD R/T 1.269 1.325 60' 2.623 2.224 1/8 10.139 9.915 mph 74.60 69.80 1000 12.980 12.923 1/4 15.394 15.438 mph 93.56 89.72 2nd run vs 00 Integra GS-R R/T .720 .868 60' 2.766 2.397 1/8 10.402 10.292 mph 73.29 69.50 1000 13.317 13.342 1/4 15.773 15.902 mph 92.08 87.69 As you can tell I'm pretty pissed off. The guy in the Integra is a friend of mine and claims to have run a 14.7 1/4 at this same track. Any help? I know where I need to lose time but I don't know how. :( |
in my 91 TII i ran a 14.5 my first run and if i remember right a like 14.7 my second time. I havent taken it back up yet, but that was my first time to the strip so i should be able to get down to 13.9 atleast with shifting better and better tires, i squeeled a bit. My car is stock though.... so something has to be wrong here...
|
I really think it was the track or the humidity b/c my car has a rebuilt motor w/ only 50k on it and never gives me any problems. The other thing is they do a real shitty job of preparing this track. The only reason I go to it is b/c it is only 1 hour away compared to 4 hours to get to San Antonio's track.
|
wait did the 5.0 stang run a 16 pass?????
or did you??? Either way that is not a great # for either car. As I know the potential of both cars. Can ya run the codes on the car and see if anything comes up? I this works on fords but to be honest am still learning the mazda's... |
Those are bad numbers for just startin at the track...you'll be in mid 14s before ya know it...you've got to find your "click"...when you've hit the light just right and you balanced enough power for the launch but not too much to sit and spin..
Sidewinder..you ran a 14.5/7 in a stock T2???? That is something to be proud of! You must be a good driver... Can't wait til I can post my times https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR |
with a GOOD engine and a good driver i think a high 14 is possible with a S5 TII
|
Sorry about the confusion on the times. When I wrote the post it was all spaced out so you could tell my times from the other guys times. Anyways my times are the ones on the left.
|
Wow I feel sorry for that one 5.0 Mustang...
16.3? at 89? Sure it wasnt a V6???? Any idiot should at least be able to get a 15 out of a V8 mustang.... unless it is like a 66-70 289..... |
60Ft are WAY TO HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
get to 2.1 should be mid 14's |
With a good set of tires and a good launch you could easly shave a half second of your time or better!! :bigok:..........that 60 ft is horrable
|
the weather def. had a role in the times, also the more practice you get , the better your times will get
|
Everyones short times sucked. Look at that AWD Talon only cutting a 2.2 60'. They must not have prepped the track too well, I know some of the one ones out herre cheap out when there's a lot of street cars running.
|
Well matt :
the altitude at the wall is bad you got poor traction.....look at your 60' (take that Yoko at Scott's house) the stock car ran about a 15.1. you turned up the wick but didn't adress the fact that you still had both cats on there. that monolithic converter is horrible. you're just putting more strain on your turbo. You should fare a lot better with your 3" DP, and get rid of that cat. No one checks in Abilene. Let us know how it goes next time. with that new aluminum TID and DP. Mid 14's shouldn't be a prob. My best time there was only a 13.92 and i only pulled 13's off twice. never ran it with the flywheel though. Most of the time i ran 14.01 It's a shitty track, but it's all we......no YOU have. BTW there's an 1/8 mile track down the road from our house here, and a 1/4mile 54 miles away. oh yeah humid is better than hot dry air, which is what you mostly have in San Angelo |
There is a 1/4 mile database on http://www.rx7registry.com if you wanna post your times there https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Hell no I don't want to post these sorry ass times there. Johann the cats are all gone now.. I retained them just in case I need them for an emissions test sometime in the future. Where it that tire? John's house or Scott's house? I would like to get so I can put them all on sometime soon. thanks.
|
Keep practicing man. You were not going to nail it the first time out.
|
Got to love turbo cars! So easy to crank up the power!
Dont worry man just some exhaust work and you will feel a good gain. By the way my first pass which is over a year now I only faired 14.8 at 96 I believe... cant remember my 60 ft but lets just say it could of been a lot better! Practice and some exhaust work. But still even a 15 flat will take out a considerable amount of cars. **** to be honest you would be right next to me for a long time in a race. Though to be honest you would probably kick my ass off the line.. haha But anyway good luck! And wish I had a turbo RX7!! AM about ready to sell this damn GT just for a shot at an 84 RX7... |
To anyone who has a TII: How do you launch it off the line? Usually I just slide my cluth out at about 3300rpm and I get a small squek and go. Is there a better method? Also when dragging I usually don't bring my car past 6200rpm cause the power feels like it levels off (???).
7mech, those numbers are still respectable as long as you beat the talon. Spike |
Thanks Spike. You really shouldn't ride your clutch when luanching the car. If you continue to ride it like that it will wear out really fast. I usually just launch at 3700rpm. When I launch I just dump the clutch. Yes I get more tire spin, but my clutch lasts alot longer. Also I get alot of tire spin b/c my tires are crappy.
|
3700rpm works very well, I got very little spin. My clutch thanks you!
Spike PS: Whats the stock boost on a TII? |
87-88 5.5psi
89-91 7.5psi |
Thanks Vosko... The stock gauge goes up to 8psi?

450 millimeters of mercury = 8.7015493psi on the stock gauge
(Ref: http://www.ilpi.com/msds/ref/pressureunits.html, using Torr as your units) Cut off occurs at this number, but depending on which RX7 site you go to its different? http://www.rx7-uk.co.uk/mycar.htm (8 psi cut on a 91) http://www.teamfc3s.org/info/articles/fcd/diy_fcd.htm (8.6 psi cut) from others I've heard it's about 1psi above stock. (8.5?) The first site said the had cut out after 8psi, poor guy... Spike |
Revised my theory on launching....still going to slide the clutch a little. If it goes, nah, it's better then putting undo stress on my power train. Clutches are wear items.... but thanks anyways.
Spike |
Thats cool but it's gonna cost ya. Either in time (amount to do job) or money(amount to do job). If you want to buy a new one that's up to you. I know it gives you less wheel spin but is it worth burning you clutch up every few months? Sorry dude but I don't think so. That could be because I've had to change clutches on cars where people were racing and didn't know how to launch real well and just road thier clutch a little longer to compensate. I hope for your sake that it doesn't go out on you soon. BTW I'm not implying that you don't know how to change a clutch or know what's involved in changing a clutch. Good luck.
|
if anyone knows how to change the clutch on these cars it should be you.
|
Yep, I know. It sucks too.
|
practice your shifting and launching...I dropped about .2 of my time with better shifting
|
Do you guys know how old this post is? Don't get me wrong I like all the advice but I posted this in July.
|
we're just trying to keep it real!
|
My buddy own an 87 turbo II that he let's me race sometimes i launch at about 3500, but you also have to let off or else it will just spin all the way through first, then most of the way through second, quite a bit in third, oh yah coming into forth, if you're not careful you'll end up sideways. That car is f*cking awsome, air filter, dp 3" exhaust- straight through everything, and a fuel cut defense, and bov, stock in every other way; and it runs 12.9's with him driving, 13.4's with me behind the wheel.
|
'79 RX7 thoughs are some nice times. You guys must have a good track to go to. Where are you located?
