Why can't you just change the exhaust system to a high flow by itself? Do you really need to change the ecu and fuel management?
Spike Do I have this about right, guys? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |
I have a 3" exhaust system with a high flow cat and two aftermarket mufflers, is this bad? If so, where and how do I go about correcting this (Note: I'm in Canada)? In the mean time, while I still have to drive my 1990 turbo II, what should I avoid?

What about just a fuel cut controller from mazdatrix? Where is it installed and should I have mazda do it?
Spike |
The fuel cut defenser will prevent the factory fuel cut but it won't necessarily prevent the engine from running lean during periods of peak boost. You could install an air/fuel ratio gauge and see if the ratio goes lean at full boost.
I don't know if Mazda would install a performance mod that might shorten your engine's life, but I'm sure there are some shops that would do it. I don't think there's much to it. Mazdatrix surely provides instructions. You could do it yourself. |
So what items do I need?
|
FCD takes approx 5.4 seconds to install. it just plugs into the boost sensor on your passenger side strut tower
|
So what do I need:
ECU: Just the FCD? Or more? Or do I also need upgraded fuel pump? Or a Boost controller? What about oil jets? Other? Keep in mind that I'm currently happy with my performance, but don't want to blow my engine. Any suggestions, hints or explanations? Spike |
i would buy an upgraded fuel pump . walbro is pretty good
|
Vosko
When the car runs lean, does that mean I'm not getting enough oil? How does the fuel pump fit in? Just asking, not trying to be rude? If I don't want the increased boost, whats the easiest way to control this? Spike Note: thanks for answering my endless steam of questions... |
If I start running lean, shouldn't I get a warning light on my dash?
If I check the boost at the intercooler and it reads 8.25psi, would that mean the cars is still safe? Sorry but I'm new to rotary engines..... Spike |
