Not bad, I won't even bother to share my one experience at the drag strip. It was bad, let's just say I could use some more practice! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

phinsup 11-08-2001 11:49 AM

we could add a time-slips forum or something to that effect if you'd like.

vosko 11-08-2001 11:56 AM

a timeslips dyno forum would be good https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png i killed a civic that ran 17.9......... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

YucA 11-08-2001 05:07 PM

I think that's worse than stock...must've been the bling blingin rims.

vosko 11-10-2001 12:05 PM

atleast i beat something finally..... a win is a win even though it was against a really slow honda https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rotaryman88 02-05-2002 08:28 PM

A civic at my last race over the summer ran a 17.9 too..it had the full body kit, kick ass system, you know...the normal...that might explain the slow times. It's hard to make a car look good and be fast...oh wait, thats just civics https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

To be honest, the first run ever w/ my SE was a 17.3 @ 83.29MPH w/ a .65 RT...that was a while ago, I'm hoping to be knocking around the mid 13s when my GT-X is ready to rumble https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

vosko 02-05-2002 09:07 PM

oh yeah i ran a 15.987 last time at the track a while ago https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Watch out once I get my tranny fixed/upgraded I should be breaking into 15s.

By the time I'm done breaking my car I'll be in that area too.

It seems a bit odd to me to risk breaking my car to run so slow. If you arent breaking 13's, seems like a waste of time to beat on the car, and pay to do it at a dragstrip as well. But thats just me.

have you ever actually raced on a drag strip is totally different than driving on the street. i drag raced my GTU to learn how to drive it and have some fun. my car has to break on me. i figure its a good idea knowing what i'm doing before i attempt racing my *slow* *stock* fd

Rob x-7 02-12-2002 05:54 AM

I guess you have a point. I went to the track once with my 1981 Cutlass ( basically the last style before they stopped making the full size rear-wheel drive Cutlass ), I got 2 passes off and then they politley asked me to leave on the account I had no safety equipment besides a helmet and a driveshaft loop. This was over 10 years ago, first pass was 13 something, 2nd just broke the 13, and the car only had 3.73 rear, wish I would have put the 4.13 rear in it and got the thing to hook up, I had a full Rancho suspension in it, not a drag race set up.

vosko 02-12-2002 02:46 PM

the drag strip is also a good way to measure if your car is actually working to its potential https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png sounds like a mean cutlass you had there https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I always like to think the guys that stole it from the front of my house New Years Eve enjoyed it, lol. I had a 454 Chevy motor in it, 11:1 compression, aluminum heads, 850 Holley double pumper, reverse manual valve body turbo 350 transmission, the whole bit, that was then, this is now. :frown:

Launching at the track is so important... I never understood why I couldnt get my first RX7 under a 2.2 60' time (probably because that was 6 years ago and I had no idea what I was doing). Another problem I had with that car was wheel hop on every launch. The best I pulled was a 15.72@87.5. It was an 86 base with header, no cat, dynomax exhaust, bonez intake, alum. hood, and electric fan. Don't hate me guys but I've been racing CRX's for the last 4 years. My 85 ran 15.01@88mph on slicks. I hooked up better with that FWD than I ever did with the 7.....I just mounted a pair of BFG drag radials for my 88 SE and did the suspension so hopefully this time around I can get better 60' times.

Dyno your car...

The result will allow you to know your torque, HP's, and shift points. More than a few years ago, I had my T2 dyno'd at a local shop...$75 an hour. Anyway, the chart told me where my torque started to kick. That told me that I was launching at the wrong RPM's.

With knowledge in hand, I went back to Sear Point for some trial runs....Ran a low 13.9....basically stock. I could of ran a 13.8 but I had to work on my reaction times and launches.

Dyno do help......oh...I made 225 HP's and 210lbs at the rear wheels.

jmseven7 03-27-2002 02:17 PM

Oh....work on your RT's!!! You will have to cut that in half!

vosko 03-27-2002 02:18 PM
