wiring harness repair

can anyone lead me to the right direction on what type of wire (and size) and what kind of soldering flux to use?
i tried soldering to fix some wires and things got fucked up cuz the flux kept on dripping off and burning my carpet.. hehe
i have no kind of experience with this kinda thing, and im on a tight schedule to get this done

Martin,
In the past wiring harness repairs I've done, the best tip I could give you is to use heat shrink wrap on each individual wire. Make sure there is ample heat shrink covering the entire exposed wire and a inch or so after on each side. After doing that, grab those plastic coverings (comes on the wiring from the factory too) and wrap that around the whole wire setup, then tape that with electrical tape.
Is this all being done in the cabin or engine bay though? If just just inside, then no need for the plastic sheathing around the wires.

are you suggesting that i dont need to solder?

dude, you might as well use the butt connectors with the shrinkwrap ends.
My entire engine wiring harness is done this way. Comes out clean. You just have to be VERY careful and make sure everything is conencted cleanly and tightly.

i was actually thinking of that while i was at work today..
would there be any drawbacks to that as opposed to soldering?
