well my car is a US spec car just the motor and tranny are JDM and so is my exhaust cause if i remember right the new setup didnt have a precat but i dont honestly remember.

How do you know your motor and tranny is JDM??

I think term JDM is little misleading as all short blocks are the same. Only difference in tranny is the RZ tranny and Spirit R (I think ?). ALSO UIM and LIM has no emission stuff. Turbo on 99 spec (only for 280HP models) have the smaller turbine with special seals. Besides that, all FD engines are the same.. Oh, 99 ECU went to 16bit ECU instead of 8.

well JDM i donno but i know its from japan cause I had it shipped from over there.. a buddy of mine was stationed there and found me a motor and tranny and ecu and all the lil goodies and had them shipped to me.. thats how i know my motor is jap spec. but by looking at the two side by side i cant tell a difference, only think i really seen was this new one didnt have a precat, its almost like a stock performance downpipe.. but performance wise I didnt really notice a power increase, to me its about the same.. maybe a hair quicker but nothing to write home about..

i thought it was because they didn't have a precat on them and upgraded turbos.

they may have better turbos after 99 but my motor is out of a 95 jap spec car. and it looks and runs identical to my old one, minus i dont have a precat.

^Me too. No emissions and more efficient turbo.

I think they also elimnated some of the rat's nest along with the 16 bit ECU, but I've never seen one in person. And I don't think that changed performance, only reliability.

I'm sorry to say this, but "JDM" doesn't always mean better in sense of power.

99 turbos comes in two versions. One is the same as what we have and other is the smaller turbine with special seal that make 280HP and faster spool.

Trannies are pretty much the same (compare to 94+) except the RZ version and Spirit R with higher gearing.

99 FDs had all in one black box that replaces the rats nest... but same deal as previous verions (non US). Problem is, if something goes wrong with that box, you would have to replace all of it, not just one solenoid or vac line.

ECU might be a plus but if you get PFC, its also 16bit.
