Just wondered when the E light comes on, how much fuel is in the tank?
|
You got me, mine's never came on. I've only been below 1/4 tank a few times before a fill up.
|
its supposed to be about 2 gallons us, but they do vary
Same for me usually, but as of late with the way petrol prices are at the moment I seem to be getting the E light a little more often. I should just fill up I'm just delaying the inevitable. |
I know what you mean. I was putting gas in my work car today (Honda CRX) and a guy beside me put $58 in a F-150. I couldn't believe it, I was glad I filled up for $15!

Other than the obvious reason, isn't it extra harmful to run out of gas with a rotary engine or is that just a myth?
|
It depends if you're boosting or not. This past year a guy ran out of gas at Deal's Gap and had no issues. I've also got a buddy that blew his engine from having a low tank and loosing suction while cornering. He was boosting.
|
all the dirt and other debris that is in your tank becomes concentrated when your gas is low. everything that the stainer keeps away from your pump. so i guess as the concentration gets higher, the more chance that it gets sucked through the strainer.
and also the chance of going lean while at boost.... very dangerous |
Both make sense it just seems that I have heard more horror stories of engine damage from running out of gas with a rotary engine, personally I don't trust any gas gauge, when that needle gets past a quarter tank low, i'm looking for a station to fill up, even though it is costing nearly and hour's wages to do it lately!

^Ive been wondering about those same issues as far as running out of gas is concerned. I don't think I would ever let it get that low for it to be an issue.

So that must mean you are making like 60 bucks an hour. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png
Give or take a few bucks, but the economy has been so fickle out here I didn't take one check last year, it all went back into the business to keep the doors open. It's feast or famine in the construction business, anyway I didn't mean to clog up a good topic, sorry for the slight detour ppl. |
Hrm... you tend to overheat the fuel pump when you run the gas low. Fuel injected cars have fuel pumps that were designed to be submerged allowing the fuel to cool the pump. Run it down to the empty light and your fuel pump won't last too long. |
i ran out of gas b4, nothing happend to my car tho. after that i just rolled to a gas station and nvr thought nothing of it. my gas light went on and i ran out stairs to get something to drink and come down. i drove it for like 10 blocks and it died out. my car gets really bad gas milage tho. 10/14
