my car is going up to kdrotary tommorrow. i need to go next week to tell them what i want for the new motor. i have one question though. whats better 2mm or 3mm seals. whats better from a reliability and performance stand point.

if so why do some people use 3mm?

 

They use 3mm because they think that it's thicker so therefore better (the old bigger is better argument).



2mm seals better, is the newer design adopted by Mazda who have spent millions developing them (do we arrogantly think we can know better from our backyard experimenting?) and they do seal better.



3mm are harder to get and cost more once you take into account the machining of the rotor slots.



Try the rotary aviation 2mm seals...

 

2mm is all you will ever need, save you money for something else you need or want.

This was a really good question because I heard that if you go with a single turbo setup you are asking for a quick death with 2mm seals. Especially with higher boost. Again this is only what I have heard, and I am looking for some real insight on this subject too. KD told me that they only use Mazda apex seals whether they are 2mm or 3mm. They said the research and development that Mazda uses on their apex seals far exceeds any other manufacturers. I can only assume they're right?? But what is the deal with different material used on apex seals? I have seen different metals and I have heard that for best reliability and durability that ceramic apex seals are best. Uggh too many options, for such an important decision.... What is a rotary tuner to do, especially when considering going single setup with more boost?? Any bad experiences with 3mm seals besides price of labor to install them?? My head hurts thinking of all of this.....
