New or used, there is nothing that is as quick and handles as well as a third generation RX-7 that is comparable in price. We got ours for $12000 in 1999. You can find a great one for $15000 if you are patient.

No Supra, 3000GT, Corvette, F-body, Mustang, Eclipse, NSX, 300ZX....I can go on.

The RX-7 is the best sports car bargain out there period.

Well, RX-7s, Supras, VR4s, and 300ZX TT, are all close in performance. The Supra and RX-7 being the best 2. But the Supra is very expensive.

Now, a 300ZX TT is not too far away from the RX-7's performance. They can be found for about $10K - $11K, which leaves about $1K - $2K for performace mods that will top that of the RX-7 for the same price.

The only thing is that the RX-7 Looks A LOT BETTER than the 300ZX, and the rest of the list, ANY DAY. Making it the best choice of all.

Wink

Wow, lots of views no replies.

I would agree, my buddy has the new Celica with the 6 speed trans... pretty weak, I was actually expecting more. He's since done about 5K in work on the thing, why I don't know, but anyhow it is still less than impressive.

Why? The commercial says they "look" fast, not that they are.

I love the commercials for the Celica though. Especially the one where the motorcylce cop overshoots the parked Celica trying to give it a speeding ticket . It hits me right here <patting chest> Shoulda been for the RX-8 or another new rotary Mazda though.

New or used, there is nothing that is as quick and handles as well as a third generation RX-7 that is comparable in price. We got ours for $12000 in 1999.

Picture this:

1985 RX-7 GSL-SE. GC coilovers in front, Eibach prokits in back, Tokico Illuminas all around. TSW Blade wheels, BFG Comp T/A tires, strut tower triangulating brace. No PS, ABS, Bose or other weight BS, besides standard options, like PW and AC. No emissions crap. BTW, did I mention I already did all this to mine?

Here's what I'm doing this winter: '89-'91 TII engine transplant. DP, G-Force chip, custom cat-back. I'm expecting more than stock FD hp. The best part of that is, it weighs about 300 lbs lighter than a stock FD.

$4200 for the car 5 years ago.

$1000 for the wheels and tires. The wheels came with the car, but I refinished them.

$1100 or thereabouts for the other suspension stuff, including the strut brace.

$1400 for a TII front clip (no body panels or breaks) shipped from Sydney, AU to LA, USA.

$500 guestimated tax and shipping on the above for importing, and sending it from LA to Minneapolis.

$500 approximately for a custom cat-back.

This brings us to a grand total of $8250.

That leaves me $3750 (if we are both working on the same $12,000 price for comparrison) to get a chip, DP, and a few things I'm most likely forgetting right now. Oooh, like a clutch! And maybe a fiberglass hood with a scoop! Maybe a Wolf ECU and a bigger turbo.

Of course this only makes it a better deal because that's what I want to do. Value is in the heart and mind really. And of course, it's still an RX-7, just not a FD. And I really haven't seen any FDs that I would rather have based on looks alone. I would like to have one AND the SE though.

Berny Herrera's 1st gen is friggin' awesome too, but I am pretty sure he went over the $12K figure a while ago.

Just my opinions. And I guess this only matters if we are including modded cars, and not just new or used stockers.

Take care,
