Thumbs up

So what kit's are there for the 3'rd gen. What have members done to their brake systems? Best kits for the price? SS lines, slotted, drilled, both, pads. So what's the best path to getting these damn beasts stop?

Hawk Hps pads, and you can get cross drilled and slotted rotors off of ebay. Stainless lines are through gotham. Any upgrade will be significant becuase the rx already has DOPE brakes.

I'm very impressed with the brakes. Invest in some Hawk pads (or whichever brand you prefer) for ~$110 and you'll see improvement.

Better pads, rotors, and SS lines will help with brake consistency, but if the brakes already have enough power to lock the wheels, none of the above will reduce braking distances. For that you will need to increase the amount of friction with the road by either increasing your contact patch or getting stickier tires. If you change calipers and the amount of fluid the new calipers take in is different from stock, then you start to imbalance the stock brake bias. So if you change calipers, calculate what the difference in volume is and consider changing your BMC and adding an adjustable brake proportioning valve.

On a stock brake system, the easiest thing to do is change out pads or install SS lines. Just remember not to use race pads on a street car since they typically need to be heated up before they work properly (not good when you need to stop suddenly for the driver talking on his cell phone that just cut you off in his SUV). SS lines are useful if you drive HARD, mainly because you won't notice a difference for most driving. Once you hit that last 10-20% of brake travel, though, you'll notice a more consistent, less spongy feel from the pedal.

That being said, I'm in the process of finishing up a group buy on Goodridge SS brake lines for the AE86 and am thinking of starting up a couple group buys for the FC and FD owners. Price should be $119 shipped in the continental US and have an abrasion-resistant vinyl coating in your choice of color. If there's any interest I'll start it up in a few weeks...

I may be in for that depends on my situation in a few weeks. Right now i need new rotors for sure mine are really warped. That's what i get for street racing on rodes that dont have proper cool down distance. lol.

TWR Racing also makes a front brake kit for the FD. The calipers are massive, and look very stiff like the Stoptech. TWR Racing

There's 2 distinct price levels for big brake kits.

AP Racing and Brembos, $2500 USD and up.

Stoptech, TWR and Wilwood, from about $1400 to $1800.

Big brakes will only get you fade resistance while on the track. The stock brakes on the FD are great with only good pads!
