Hey,

well, after 6 months of work on my FC S5, its finaly done and produces some nice power. The porting "ArmyOfOne" did to the engine and the intake is awesome.

The engine is really TOP, the car has also TEIN RA Coilovers, Power FC standalone, and some other mods. The car cost me with a broken engine around 1900$, the parts cost me around 5000$ with work on the engine and stuff.

I had always a problem with cars, selling them and buying new ones... Since i was going to buy a RHD from japan one day, i was thinking of getting a FD.

Many people told me stay away from FDs because of the high priced parts and stuff, and i know that too.. but isnt a FD a better base for more power? OF COURSE, you can push a FC hard, and get some nice power.. but i think a FD wich the same power as the FC, lets say 400whp would be more reliable, am i right or wrong?

I want the car for circuit racing (for fun, not professional) and highway highspeed, and thats where the FD should be better than a FC for example because of the longer 5th gear.

what do you guys think? should i try selling my FC and get a FD instead? Just say what you think

PS. I will also start a thread in the 2nd. gen forum, to hear some advise from people owning a fc, because i think here will be replying people which want to say, i would be better buying a fd haha but anyway, please reply.

Get an FD you wont look back.

Better handeling, and overall performace from the word go. Do get a 96 or higher so you dont have as many TT problems or just buy a single turbo unit that been done already.

Goood luck buddy.

Enjoy!

If reliability is your basis for swapping then stay where you are. Your car is only going to be as reliable as you make it. You can build just as nice of a fc as you could a fd. It all boils down to how much money and time you want to put into it. The fd is a very good handling car. It is pretty fast even stock so long as it is working properly. I don't know that you really feel like starting from scratch on a new car but I don't know anyone that has driven a fd and doesn't prefer it over the older models. Keep in mind thought it is a rx7, which as you likley know can be a pain in the *** more times than not.

thank you for your replys.

Well, in case of reliability you are totaly right lol. My car is running sweet, but there are still some things which have to be improved.

I was thinking about selling my current car, because i could get some nice money for it. As i was planning to import a car from japan anyway, i was thinking of getting me a FD, because they are really low priced.. so the difference between a FC and a FD is only something around 2000$.. so.. what would make more sense? buying a FC and save 2000$, or spent 2000$ more and get a "better" basis?

Since the FD is better in handling, it would make a good circuit racing car. And since the FD has a longer 5th gear stock, it would make a better highspeed car, as you know there are no speedlimits on the highway in germany.

Engine internals are almost samepriced compared to the FC S5.. but you can buy a LOT of used parts for the fc, but not as easily for the FD.

most things, i can repair myself, ecu programming as far as its Power FC, too. But more for reliability, i am a bit afraid of tuning for max. Performance, because i dont want to risk a engine blow haha

meh from the point of view of someone who has both and has modified both to a somewhat large extent, i can honestly say you will be shocked at the prices of **** for the FD. seriously. just for stupid stock pieces it's an arm and a leg.

i cant say i prefer one over the other tho, they both have their own key points, and since youre planning on lots of modificatyions anyway the final result is really up to you.

is the FD a better base to start from then an fc? maybe, but on both cars youre gonna wind up throwing away half of the "base" of the car anyway so it doesnt really matter.

is your current fc a better base then going out and buying an fd? yea probably.

my advice, stick with what you have and add more onto it, you only spent $5k in work to the car....there's tons more out there to do to it.

kevin.

i ONLY got an fd for the exterior/interior looks. the interior of the FC drove me nuts.

i had a 360whp nice s5 TII that ran like a champ. only problem was it was my 3rd fc and i was getting a little bored with it and i wanted something a little different. the FDs have more modern suspension, the interior and exterior look much better.

the only downsides really are the "cheap" interior feel and the price of parts... FC has FD beat in those categories. i'm trying to get another FC as a daily driver.
