alright so the fd is apparently dead. i'm 99% sure its the ******* turbo but i want to make sure.

What would cause the engine to blow it's oil seals, anything other then age or misassembly? running untned or even running lean wouldnt blow the oil seals right?

the car is smoking blue smoke like a mother ****** and i had a very small exhaust leak at the turbo v-band and it smokes right out of there.

If i grab the turbo shaft after turning it off and waiting for a minute i can move it side to side and back and forth, so im pretty sure its this ******* turbo.

i knew the not spinning thing was a problem.

what would blow a turbo, especially a turbo that has never seen boost? defective out of the box, would untuned cause it to blow, or would even running super lean blow it? i think the only way it happens without boosting it is if its defective.

please help.

New turbo? Did you prime the turbo before starting it the first time?

If there is considerable shaft play then you are correct to assume the turbo is shot.

Running it untuned would not effect the oil control rings. It is more likley that they were out of spec and reused or installed incorrectly.

But from the sound of it, you got a crap turbo. BTW, before you start, you should crank a bunch with the EGI fuse pulled to build some oil pressure in the turbo, and then once it does start hold the wheel from spinning for a little bit. Good easy way to make sure everything is lubed up before it gets spun hard.

Is it a garrett t04r? there are a lot of ripoff brands these days.

it's definitely a garrett t67 aka t04r, its not the hks version tho.

I think the motor is fine, it starts right up and idles the same it did before.

the turbo is definitely done, it moves in and out and i can move it side to side and itll touch the compressor.

Hopefully the store i bought it from can warranty this or something.

As for the not spinning thing, when i first installed the new motor and new turbo, the turbo wasn't spinning at idle.

I did crank the car with the egi fuse out of it a couple of times to get oil to everything before fully cranking it over to try and start it.

I have the turbo off now and if i look through the exhaust wheel the inside looks to have oil all over it but the manifold runners to the turbo are dry so I'm pretty confident this is the turbos problem.

hopefully the store will send me a new one or at least work something out with me, otherwise im fucked, didnt plan on buying two brand new turbos.

yea the turbo's bearings or whatever are definitely shot, finally got it out of the car, im pretty sure the motor is a-ok, thank god, it started right up when cold and stills idles fine.

i think the one oil injector is leaking at the crush washer, got a little puddle between the motor and LIM at the front, i have premix in the tank anyway.

and the vaccuum line off the top of the oil injector has oil coming out of it...which i think is odd, i have it vented to the atmosphere so I can see the bit of oil in it.

the leaky one or the one pushing oil out the vac line?

im tired of these stock parts and brand new parts breaking.

im still awaiting response as to how this turbo situation will be handled by the company, we shall find out, hopefully they stand behind their products.

im pissed staring at my car sitting outside the shop, i finally had it running nicely in vacuum.
