hey guys, i'm thinking of getting a torque brace, does it work???

i'm always missing three when i drive the car hard... thinking about getting a torque brace and a short shifter... comments???

Have you checked your motor mounts? I have heard there are stiffer motor mounts you can buy that will help with this problem. Although I've never personally had any problems with mis-shifting...

no i haven't thought of that... it seems to me it be alot easier to install a torque brace and a short shifter.... i think i'm not the only one who misses third gear... i see on the forum alot... uuummmmmm.....

a torque brace will help, it did in my car. I made my own, which is what a lot of guys are doing now.

Oh and on a side note, all that bs about how hard it is to change a motor mount is just that BS!!! Here's the easy way without droping the subchassis.

Get under the car and unbolt the nut from each motormount to subchassis.

Use a block of wood and a jack under the oil pan to lift the engine about 2 inches.

Use a 17mm wrench to loosen the 3 bolts on each motormount to engine.

Do what you want, but I think the correct way to fix the problem (assuming the problem *is* broken motor mounts) would be to fix the motor mounts. If that isn't the problem, then do the short shifter. I'd be hesitant to install a torque brace, although people have had them on the "other" forum for several months with no problems.



Never said you were the only one... I was just saying *I* have never had this problem, so take my advice with a grain of salt... :yum:



Of course then again I run track, and don't street race (like the "other" forum crew), maybe that is why. Mis-shifting can be a lot more deadly/costly on a road track than street/drag racing, so you tend to be a little less casual about it. I saw the results of an NSX misshift from the top of 3rd gear into 2nd in the middle of a high-speed turn once, the results were not pretty.

ive seen that too, it was a 1st gen though.

my friend mentioned that he had the knightsports torque arm, way back in the day.

they told him to only use it racing, but he had it in all the time and it tore the body.

he does drive really hard, but there is a downside to the torque braces

wow....good thing i'd asked.. i only drive my car on the weekends... so when i do, i drive it pretty hard... i'll just stick with the short shifter, if that doesn't work....i'll try the motor mounts.

I'm not keen on torque rods either. The culprit is usually the gearbox mount. OEM they are a bit soft to supress noise, gearboxes make quite a lot. I used to sometimes not be able to get fourth out of a 150 degree uphill left hander we have here, got a Nolathane gearbox mount made, problem solved. Bit more noise in the cabin. Later got a C's short shifter (only because the price was too good to pass up) and must admit to being converted! Much nicer to shift now!

I love my DIY torque brace. It was cake to install and stopped ANY mis-shifts into 3rd gear. I know Dragon's car survived 2 years with a broken engine mount and a torque brace. Now he's got solid engine mounts.

so you don't have a problem with the torque brace ripping your body????
