Too Rich
#1
hey guys, my FD is running very rich...i get very bad gas milage, the exaust stinks like fuel at idle, and when i get on boost i get tons of black smoke out the exaust. i know running rich is good but my car is bone stock (with the exception of an AST and stock japanese DP) and i would like better gas milage and i dont like all that smoke (a little puff would be ok but i get way too much). what should i do??

that's the international sign for "give teknics your fd" lol
I'd check first all the ignition things, spark plugs, spark plug wires etc. Then i'd inspect the fuel injectors and make sure the o-rings aren't fucked up allowing extra gas into the engine when it's not needed, or perhaps the injectors themselves. Or perhaps you need to reset your stock ECU it may have some how been damaged? THat's all i can think of at 1am so ill check back in this topic later.

It could be a dozen different things. I suggest that if you dont know where to start looking to call someone who does.
I dont know where you live, but there are plenty of tunners on the East coast that can get you set up.
I would rather see you get your car fixed right then **** it up guessing at what is wrong with it.
PM me if you need help contacting a good Fd mechanic.

i got new plugs today and it helped a little but not too much. the wires are relatively new...5-6K miles.
FD3BOOST- i do have a good RX-7 mechanic but he is booked for a few weeks and if it is a simple problem then i dont want to have to pay the extra $60 an hour for him to fix it if it is something that i can do.

well i had my mechanic look at my FD today and he said my O2 sensor was probally bad and i was going to bring the car back next week for him to fix it...when i got home i popped the hood and it was extremely hot (hotter than normal)...i then heard a bubbling sound from the coolent filler neck and the AST...I turned the ignition to on and turned the fans on and i heard the ADD COOLENT buzzer i left the fans on to let the car cool down.
not sure why it did that, i had the A/C on the whole time I was driving and the engine only has 45k miles on it.
do you guys think my O-Rings are going? if so do you think the CRC Block Weld will fix it?

have you looked to check if you fans are working? if not, ther is one culprit....
as far as the rich problem....fuel dampner could be the issue, i got a pig rich mix when that and a couple of other sensors went bad on me a couple of times. be sure that you are not getting any error codes from teh ecu and what not.....
you should not need to have to pay your mechanic to replace the O2 sensor, it is about a 15 minute job, and the part can be had for about 17$....trust me...i replaced mine the other day. just go to a parts store that has bosch and buy the universal O2 sensor for the 17$ and be done.....
