ive been thinking about an getting an fd. i wouldnt really do much to it performance wise, i would just want it to be reliable. i would prob do intake/exhaust, pfc, short shift, and reliablilty mods, silicone hoses, radiator, etc. oh and maybe some rims and some suspension stuff after the other stuff gets done. anyways what should i look for when looking at FDs? i know a lot of the stuff but then there is a lot that i dont so post up anything you can think of that i would prob want to do to make the car a reasonably fast reliable dd. thanks for the help in advance guys!! oh i would want to spend prob <$14000

Ahhh. Sounds like me a while back.

I'm tryin to buy for under $14k, although I could go higher logically. It's because of money required for maintenance.

Umm look for a lot of things, there's links and FAQ's everywhere on this subject, so asking again is becoming quite redundant.

Compression tests are great for piece-of-mind, if it has a mp and a dp it needs more mods to keep it from boosting all over the place (FWIK), etc etc.

Lots to learn young grasshopper...

thanks for the help, but whats up with the young grasshopper stuff? i have an fc and have managed to keep it running for 2.5 years without any major probs. i know that the FDs are diff but still its not like i dont know anything about these cars.

3 mod rule. DP,MP,Cat back, upgrade your ECU with a piggyback. Get the boost gauge, maybe a boost controller(dunno). These are a couple of things I was told by FD owners. Good luck buying. Autotrader usually has them the cheapest. There is some on there for 12k with no miles. There was even a Montego Blue on there last night with only 15k miles and most of the normal mods. He only wanted 16k for it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png Most people put in an AST(just learned what they are the other day haha)first. If it were me, I would worry about replacing the brakes, lines, topping off all the old fluids, replacing spark wires. Change it to sequential!

G'luck. And I am not talking like I am king ****, just advice that you probably know about already.

3 mod rule. DP,MP,Cat back, upgrade your ECU with a piggyback....

why piggyback..

3mod rule is as follows...

your allowed 3.. anything thereafter requires an adjustment in af..

dont buy into this rule.. from your listed mods....

the three mod rule wont apply as you cant run with full exhaust safely..

most refer to the 3mod rule as dp.. intake.. cb

rowtareh 06-26-2004 03:19 AM

Well, put a piggyback on there, since the stock ecu will not be able to recognize all the modifications you did. Like freeing up the exhaust, getting rid of the cat converter, or in your case like stated putting intake on.

amp 06-26-2004 03:33 AM

missed my point entirely..

youve mistated the three mod rule..

merely clarifyin it for ya.. as far as my inquiry on piggyback..

let me rephrase.. why are you suggesting piggyback when its an outdated form of management...

rowtareh- its probably best to leave the technical advice to

those who have first hand expierence, not like shane is going

to go out and do what you tell him tomoroww, but its nice

to give advice when you know they are accurate https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
