ok so i test drove a red 93 fd today in central ohio and the car had some issues i was wondering if i could maybe get some help since i dont know fd's at all. 1.) when first started it reved to 3k and didnt let off for about 2 min, is that jus the AWS? 2.)the caqr idled back and forth between 2-2.5k rpm, never dropped below 3.) if u tried to take off under 3k rpm it jus died, wouldnt even try 4.) unless u drove above 2.5k rpm, it would die, so im sure its been driven hard 5.) once u hit about 5k rpm it sputters, itll kik real hard then drop then kik real hard then drop, even when not floored 6.) about 5-10 plugs ontop of the motor not plugged in at all with no partners, could this maybe be from the stock sequential twin turbos since it had a single turbo?

heres what i saw done to it, big ***, my guess being, 3" exhaust from manifold back. single turbo conversion, not sure what turbo tho, FMIC, bigger wastegate, and BOV. my best guess was, the guy got ahold of it and was more worried about big boost and power then doing things right, maybe stuck a big single in there with all the goodies and some big *** injectors and left the stock ecu in, and it cant deal with the car being the way it is. also maybe the maf is bad? and the car had 137,xxx on it, wich is high for an fd and it pulled awfully hard for not being rebuilt, so maybe the car has been ported? not sure ive never driven a ported rx7 b4 so i wouldnt know the symptoms.. but someone please help me out with this car and let me know how hard it is to fix, im thinkin a standalone would cure many of the problems but idk so please helps and thanks again

First of all, single turbo with stock ecu's are finiky and you will see some issues when driving the car..

Compression test will give you an answer but not always necessary as compression tester usually give some error and depend on which unit you use... You'll be surprised how many mazda tech doesn't know how to use them.

When the engine is cold and the engine starts right away, the engine usually have a pretty good compression. I usually go by that as low compression engines take longer and spins for awhile before it starts.. And sometimes harder to start when warm.

Without seeing and hearing the car, its hard to tell. If you know any local 7 owners, ask them to go with ya. What part of OH are you from?? I used to live in Cincy and I still know couple of guys from there.

no im from columbus, and u should have heard there auto tech, he was straight retarded. for starters i showed them the boost gauge and what it did and how it kept the car running and whatnot so they knew what was goin on, then the auto tech comes out to ride with me during the test drive and he goes "here lemme set the boost for ya. idk y but it jumps from 15 to 20, ill put it at 20" yea it deff skipped from 1:50 to 2:00, this man had no clue on life. and he also kept trying to tell me it was a 4cyl and not a 2cyl, even tho i never said cylinder i said rotar but wtf ever

no im from columbus,

General population of people have no clue how rotaries work... Since you are in Columbus, Take the car to google.com. They know their stuff (and also DGRR sponsors). I've known RX7store guys for well over 7 years now! Tell them Herblenny sent ya Also, they might know few FDs around town also.

Good luck!
