All stock

'94 Rx7.

I took everything apart and pulled the injectors and sent them in for cleaning. KD-Parts replaced o-rings and pintel caps. I sprayed WD-40 on them and slid them back in. Carefully put everything back together. Triple checked all hoses and electrical connections. Now I start the car and it idles rough but smooths out. But if I rev the engine I get a "tea-kettle" squeal from under upper intake manifold at the rear. The high pitched squeal only happens when I rev the engine. It seems like it's coming from either from the air control valve or the rear secondary injector. The rear seconary injector is under the air control valve. Both of these parts are under the rear of the upper intake manifold. Another person had a similar "tea kettle" noise HERE. Any ideas?

Thanks very much.

Keith,

Not sure what to tell you on fixing your problem but you could do a search over on this site & see if you can find an answer to what you are looking for. They have a wealth of info there.

If you can`t find a solution, you could always post a question in the 3rd gen section & see what kind of responses you get.

Good luck!

And your confident it's not simply a boost leak? Most common are from the soft coupler at the 'Y' pipe or if you have an Efini 'Y' pipe...the gasket. Sometimes intake gaskets will leak and whistle, but they usually result in high idle too.

A friend had a whistling sound...I think he said it was finally tracked to one of the split-air or AP hoses....can't remember exactly.

Dave Barninger of KD Rotary nailed the problem when I e-mailed him. Here's his response to me after I described the "tea kettle" noise:

"HEy Kieth...cannot argue repair...your noise is actually something I have heard a bunch of times...question...did you have air control valve off??? if so the mosot common issues is the check valve behind the air control valve falls down and creats a vacumn leak that squeals...have to remove uim and air control vlave...but that would be the first place I go...let me know..thanks..dave@KDR"

I did have the air control valve off because I'd pulled out the injectors for cleaning.

When I put the air control valve back on I didn't seat the check valve in the LIM properly. The result was a gap between the air control valve and the LIM.

I took a picture of the vacuum leak. Just follow the seam down between the LIM and air control valve. You'll see a small gap open up.

My car runs like a champ now. I just need to clean the sweat stains off the fenders.

Here's the check valve that didn't seat properly in the LIM. It's circled on the upper left of the picture along with the gasket.

My car.

Thanks for everything.
