You're going to get many differing opinions on this, but I prefer not the start the car at all during the winter. Just idling the car isn't that great to begin with. And weekly startups in -25 or worse cold, with oil like molasses, probably does more harm than good.

I've owned a few RX-7's now, and they have always survived our Canadian winters in full hibernation mode.

1. Full tank of gas.

2. Fuel stabilizer.

3. Add extra antifreeze, since I usually run about 80/20, which could freeze up in -30C.

3. Pull leading sparkplugs and spray fogging oil from your local Crappy Tire. Just bump the starter and make sure that you get all 3 rotor faces in each chamber.

4. Put plugs back in

5. Remove battery and store in your basement.

6. Leave parking brake off.

7. Patiently wait out the 6 months of winter.

8. Change oil after winter.

9. Start car in the spring, knowing it was nicely lubed up and watch the smoke show.

im pretty sure the ccs testing for motor oils falls within that temp range... molasses is an exageration imho..

as far as idlin.. realize your idlin in cold weather where heat isnt really an issue...
