starter problem
#1
ok, i've been having a weird problem with my car.
its a 94 pep. the car has a E6K in it and TII coils.
whenever i turn the steering wheel to the left, the starter engages. i checked the wiring at the starter, nothing is touching it.
i checked under the steering coloum, no loose of chafed wires.
i spoke to T88Kid and he said he had a simmilar problem with his car, caused by his drivers side tire cutting into the harness that runs under the fender. i checked that harness and it looks fine.
before i start cutting all of my cars harnesses apart looking for broken wires, can anyone suggest a place to start looking for the problem?
is this a fairly common problem?
has anyone experienced this before?
i'm begining to think that the ignition switch is bad, but i dont want to buy a new one if io dont need to....
any help is appericiated.
thanx

do your wheels rub on the fender liners? the harness is right there, its real common on lowered cars. also you could look at the column and see if there are any wires near it.
this shouldn't be hard to figure out, there is only 1 wire to triggerthe starter and somewhere its finding 12v

Hey, you might want to check your ignition wire, make shure that wire is not getting pinch when your turn the steering wheel. And also double check those wire that run through the left side tire..... i have had this problem couple of times, with kids that put big wheels on.

my car is fixed, thanx to Mario, MVA, and j9fd3s. the drivers side tire had rubbed against the harness in the wheel well and shaved a few wires. I re-taped everything that was damaged, and moved the harness away from the tire, securing it with tie straps.
i cant believe that mazda couldn't find a better place to run that harness. and i cant believe that this isn't a more common problem.
i posted this thread on the 'other' forum, and got ZERO replies. you guys rock! thanx for the help!!!!!!!!!!!
