UIM > Check valve > solenoid > Black catch can under elbow > hard line under car...

What the hell is that one, and do I need it, or can I bypass the solenoid and run straight to the hard line? Lemme get a pic...

Yes it is the purge solenoid. You need it. Everything else on that part of the UIM should be blocked off except for the one vacuum line for the check valve and solenoid.

it has something to do with gas vapors so your car wont backfire when you start it up and also helps with gas mileage

the hardline runs to the charcoal canister in the back of the car.

UMMM not quite. All that does is control gas vapors from inside the tank to the canister . If you leave that off, you will vent the fumes to the air. Like it was on pre-70's cars. You can leave it, but you don't need it. Myself,Vosko, and a few others have eliminated that crap with no ill effects

Ahh... I see. I guess I can leave it there... I just see a few pics here and there where it was removed, and wasn't sure how. Thanks for the replies!

well EXCUUUUSE me lol I was pretty dead on jeez

9base3 I notice the hardline coolant line to the left of your fram (barf mazda filters rule) filter is not occupied. I ran the coolant line that used to go from the top of the engine to the throttle body straight to that hardline. Then of course capping both parts on the throttle body where the coolant entered and exited.

i believe thats that coolant line....?? is it? should be directly under the TB what am i looking at on the last pic? Under a greddy elbow?

Snook,

Thanks for the help. Yeah.. The Fram is there just to keep dirt out! I haven't decided if I want to bypass the TB yet, but I probably will.

well if it gets freezing where you live I'd leave it

here in florida its a no brianer cause it gets to maybe 35 at coldest ever and that doesnt last long

when are you actually going to get that engine IN your car? that's pretty funny that you've been working on the engine outside of the car for so long. I don't think anyone knows an engine quite like you now except for engine builders. Not many people get to study an engine out of the car and mod it out of the car as well.

But hell theres nothing to a rotary even when it's in the car...us being single turbo guys and all there can only be a few problems

BTW during my thanksgiving break I'm polishing EVERYTHING under my hood. I'll give a before and after pic and everyone will be very relieved haha
