UIM > Check valve > solenoid > Black catch can under elbow > hard line under car...

What the hell is that one, and do I need it, or can I bypass the solenoid and run straight to the hard line? Lemme get a pic...

The Purge control solenoid? Function?

Yes it is the purge solenoid. You need it. Everything else on that part of the UIM should be blocked off except for the one vacuum line for the check valve and solenoid.

it has something to do with gas vapors so your car wont backfire when you start it up and also helps with gas mileage

the hardline runs to the charcoal canister in the back of the car.

turbovr6 11-24-2003 02:05 PM

UMMM not quite. All that does is control gas vapors from inside the tank to the canister . If you leave that off, you will vent the fumes to the air. Like it was on pre-70's cars. You can leave it, but you don't need it. Myself,Vosko, and a few others have eliminated that crap with no ill effects

treceb 11-24-2003 02:49 PM

i did on my 85. its more or less a lil pollution control thingie...

damn the canister is under the car. the 85 had it on the engine bay.

9BASE3 11-24-2003 02:57 PM

Ahh... I see. I guess I can leave it there... I just see a few pics here and there where it was removed, and wasn't sure how. Thanks for the replies! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

snook 11-24-2003 06:32 PM

well EXCUUUUSE me lol I was pretty dead on jeez

9base3 I notice the hardline coolant line to the left of your fram (barf mazda filters rule) filter is not occupied. I ran the coolant line that used to go from the top of the engine to the throttle body straight to that hardline. Then of course capping both parts on the throttle body where the coolant entered and exited.

i believe thats that coolant line....?? is it? should be directly under the TB what am i looking at on the last pic? Under a greddy elbow?

9BASE3 11-24-2003 06:43 PM

Snook,

Thanks for the help. Yeah.. The Fram is there just to keep dirt out! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I haven't decided if I want to bypass the TB yet, but I probably will. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

snook 11-24-2003 06:48 PM

well if it gets freezing where you live I'd leave it

here in florida its a no brianer cause it gets to maybe 35 at coldest ever and that doesnt last long

when are you actually going to get that engine IN your car? that's pretty funny that you've been working on the engine outside of the car for so long. I don't think anyone knows an engine quite like you now except for engine builders. Not many people get to study an engine out of the car and mod it out of the car as well.

But hell theres nothing to a rotary even when it's in the car...us being single turbo guys and all there can only be a few problems https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

BTW during my thanksgiving break I'm polishing EVERYTHING under my hood. I'll give a before and after pic and everyone will be very relieved haha

Honestly, I didn't plan on this taking so long... Just a bad turn of events and voila! Single turbo here I come! Here's a brief breakdown:

Started modding the car with twins

Got 900 bucks stolen from me.

Blew the twins.

Decided to mod car more, and rebuild motor.

Polished stuff.

Got another 1000 bucks stolen from me.

Polished more stuff.

Converted interior.

*Ordered some parts*

Used already built motor and fuel system that was going to support upgraded twins to support single.

Went through process of having manifold I bought cheap modded to work. (at this point a penny saved is a penny earned)

Started doing custom brackets and little crap to be "different"

*Waiting on parts*

Polished even more stuff.

Now I'm just waiting on the last few parts (Clutch, fuel pump) to get her running.

The engine will take all of an hour (Hopefully) to put back in... Then it's just a matter of quadruple checking everything so I don't **** up the last 8 months of my life!!!

It's been fun, and I cant WAIT to beat the **** out of this thing!

9BASE3 11-24-2003 07:04 PM

Jesus I feel like Jimlab!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

snook 11-24-2003 11:58 PM

HAHA that's funny

just don't get aggravated like most people and lose interest

I'd say that there's nothing really to double and tripple check. You should do that now and drop it in and be good to go. The wiring harness may be a little bit of a pita but theres like NOTHING to a single turbo setup. if you need any help just let me know ill get you pics of my vacuum setup.

im not sure what jimlab is going for, i think he wants to be faster than the shuttle and outhandle a f1 car but it aint happening no matter how much time and money he puts into it

can you imagine if jimlab is a big fake? like he just made all of this **** up? hes a poor guy that knows a ton about cars and hes been ******* with everyone for years lol?

boostdfd3s 11-27-2003 09:56 PM

i dont understand jimlab either....for one hes putting the C4 Corvette engine in there, which is just retarded cuz the LS1/6 is so much of a better motor. And secondly, hes been working on this for God knows how long...when there are more than a few LS1/6 conversions working and running every day. I mean its great he can fabricate everything 4 times over because that 1/1000th of an inch WILL definitely make a difference ( https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif ) but just assemble the **********er and drive it! LOL. Thats my $.02.....cars are meant to be driven, so DRIVE EM!

as for justin, you best get that motor in asap! haha

Which would have required faking literally hundreds of pictures of my cars, parts, and engine, not to mention fooling several NW RX-7 owners by letting them check them out when they stopped by to pick up the free stuff I give away regularly... riiight. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

snook 12-04-2003 12:54 AM

whats wrong jim did you get banned from here or something haha?

Don't worry I got banned from rx7club tis ok

Any way I was just kidding. I think that would be so hilarious if you just happened to pull something like that off and it was all a joke. I guess that's way to hard and time consuming to be fake.

While you're in here though I've got a question cause nobody really knows wtf they are talking about. On my new 3d gen I've been having problems with the add coolant light coming on since I worked on my car last. The only 2 coolant realated things I did was take off a small coolant line from the top of the engine and replace it and unplug the coolant level sensor and put it back. Now I burped the system the first night it was doing it and then it went away and I was able to drive back to school 200 miles. Yesterday it did it again and I've been trying over and over and over to burp it with all types of methods. I even replaced a hose that was kinked maybe it had a pinhole I thought. Now I almost gave up I took the coolant level sensor off by the plug and then I connected it again and 30 seconds later the buzzer went off and I got frustrated and shut the car off. Can I just get a length of hose and connect both ends without having that clear/white plug in between? Is that for just convenience when pulling the wiring harness or replacing the coolant level sensor? Can't I just connect a straight wire there and see if that fixes it. Theres no way burping the system can be this ******* hard.

No, someone apparently hijacked my alias over here. Maybe they were afraid I'd join up and start posting. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Could be a bad sensor, could be a bad connection. If you ground the level sensor plug and you still get the buzzer, then you've got a short somewhere in your harness. If not, then it's possible you have a bad sensor. If you've burped the cooling system properly (do you still have an AST?) then there shouldn't be enough air left to trip the sensor.

A little. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

If you want an independent opinion, though, just ask Jeff20B. He posts here regularly and stopped by to pick up the drill press I gave away when I bought my milling machine a couple months ago. He and his dad checked out my RX-7 and engine while they were here.

yeah there are 5 connections along the way if memory serves. try grounding out the wire from sensor and go to the differnt points along the line. the coolant acts as the ground for the sensor.

snook 12-04-2003 02:06 PM

yeah its nice to have jim over here and jim I was totally kidding I still think that would be great too bad it's real haha

thanks everyone for the help

I'll wait until a rx-7 friend comes tommorrow...I know my stuff and he makes me look silly so he'll probably take care of it.

I don't like these coolant related things I can handle the level and burping but when it gets electric its all over lol
