[quote name='FdWannaBe' date='Mar 1 2005, 12:12 AM']J/w from my understanding a FD is a fussy car but hoping to get one soon but i plan on dailying it. But babying it along the way getting most if not all the usual reliability upgrades. I only plan on driving 100 or less a week. So im juss wondering what experiences people have had doing so and how many miles anyone has dailyed it

The wife drove the '94 daily for 7 years before it blew an apex seal at 118,000. Ours was reliable, but I changed the oil religously between 2 and 3000 miles. She probably drove it 100k and I drove the rest.

It is now a nice day/oops I hit bambi alternate vehicle.

I have heard many, many horror stories about FDs though, I think ours is/was an aberation.

Mark

'94 Mazda RX-7 121,000

'95 Volvo 850 201,000

'03 Toyota Matrix 38,000

There are just that many, many owners and new owners who take on a project FD that has mods in all sorts of places. It's just that easy to screw it all up, and it's been done and passed on.

I know this may draw some flames.... but I don't think it's that big of an aberation.

Your car was probably driven fairly conservatively by your wife and well maintained by you. Additionally, forums tend to be like the evening news, by their nature they tend toward bad rather than good news. Most owners don't come on the forum and comment on how great their car has been running lately. Most of the time you post a question when something is wrong. IMO, over time this has a tendancy to make us all cynical about the car. I'm not saying the FD is as reliable as a Civic might be (all else being equal), but it's not as bad as it's rep either.

And Phoenix is right, factor in the inexperienced owners and the heavy performance mods and....

OK, zipping up my flame suit now.

My flame suit's on too.

Think about how many people acquired this vehicle and planned on modifying it like a Toyota/Nissan...PLENTY. Nothing was really "Over-Engineered" in the FD though, so you have to compensate 3 mods for every new power mod.

Even if left stock, it still isn't a robust Honda, we've already accomplished the idea of 3 "Reliability" mods you have to do to a STOCK FD to help it out.

The car lasted 3 years, with very few made the last year. All the 93 guy's that unfortunately didn't have the 10 years of "Mistakes" to read and adjust accordingly from like we have the advantage of doing had to learn the hard way. And I can bet not every Rx7 owner attends these forums for all the information.

Whenever I've PM'd someone with problems I start talking to them about their mod list and history for the motor and you can't help but say: Go figure.

But Knowledge is power. Know more, and worry less.

Oh, and FWIW, I made like 3 posts last year about how sweet mine was running, because of that whole idea that we only post when problems arise, I was just being silly heh.

LOL, Phoenix, your just an "elitist *****". (see avatar)

You know of course, that we just jinxed ourselves and both of our cars will detonate within the next week.
