So some smoked started to come out of my steering wheel the other day. I took it apart today and i cant find any burnt wires. What could be going bad that would smoke? I just replaced the ignition last year. I also have a Viper alarm i want to take it out. Can i just remove all the wiring for it? Theres so many electrical problems i dont even know if its worth fixing.

may be the ignition switch

the alarm should be tapped in low on the column, it sould'nt make smoke up by the wheel

where exactly was the smoke? where the wheel meets the column, or like the wheel itself by the airbag?

The smoke was coming out of the left side by the turn signal and light switch. I donr think the alarm was part of what caused the smoke its just that its a mess of wiring, it it doesnt work right anyway.

your airbag farted.

ok no really, when you say that the wheel is smoking we think that the wheel is smoking, but really the column is. that doesnt help for problem solving. if the car still starts and all of the column switches(blinkers, etc) work then id say dont worry about it

ok yes your right i'm sorry the colunm was smoking not the wheel my bad. Still you cant just have wires burning. And everything isent working right, the dash lights and parking lights do not come on when you turn the light switch to parking lights or lights, the lights come up and go form low beam to high beam, but i have no dash lights or drivings ligths including the rear taillights, but i still have brake lights. There are some kinda crazy electrical problems here. I'm just wondering if there might be one cause to them all.

sounds like your turn signal switch is shot. controll of all the lights you are having problems with all get fed through that switch.

Ok had the dash apart started the car and i found where the smoke is coming from. If you look at the ignition switch from the driver side you can see 3 brass looking pieces of metal they all go under some white plastic. Well the very top one is the one that is smoking. It seems to only do it for a little during start up then stops smoking. What could cause that. And since we now know the ignition is whats smoking, what could be causing the lights all to fail? The turn signals work too just to let you all know. Do the driving lights all all that run through the front driver side fender wiring harness?
