Well I wouldn't know how much the machine itself is worth. I'm curious why you are interested in one? After looking into have a set of irons lapped for myself. It became obvious that the lapping alone is pointless unless you are able to have the irons nitride coated and heat treaded to boot. Otherwise the irons will wear a lot faster than normal. Why your interest?

Fd3Boost, Can you point me to where you found that info about shortening the wear on the irons? and how important nitride coating is?? Maybe the thickness of it?

mazda puts a thin coating on the irons, .002" ? the irons previous to this, 78 and earlier, are just cast iron, and are usually worn out of spec in the 40-60k range, these can be lapped cause theres no coating to take off. the nitraded housings last roughly 4x as long. and then they moved the water seals into the irons...

so you CAN lap an fd iron, but its not a great idea

I was told be the a very reliable Source that my plate (don't know if there all the same) are coated 6 thou thick. This was Hardness Tested at BAE systems in the UK (unfortunatly Scrapping the plate in the Prosses but was for intrest)

So i have resurfaced Plates before now upto 4 thou and not more, even though 2 thou is left it would reduce the life of the plate once this had worn out (i was also told the deaper the coating goes the less effective it becomes)

So the Moral of the story is.... If your Poor like me and don't expect to get 100k from the Plate it can be done (but no more than .004) but if you are going for power and a long life buy a new plate. It would seem its a Short term fix.
