I'm CLOSE. As the pic shows, I'll have to do some rolling/shaving/cutting to make this work perfect. I like the look of the meats on the back - but should I just drop to a 265 or 255 to keep from having to hack up the car?

I jacked up the front to make it squat, but this is where it'll sit with the coilovers..

Opinions??

GreyGT-C 03-13-2005 10:25 PM

roll zie fenders!!

rfreeman27 03-13-2005 10:29 PM

go skinnier, and sell me your wheels!

Srce 03-13-2005 10:30 PM

Those wheels are too sexy for your car, I'll be more than glad to take them off your hands.

SilverSeven 03-13-2005 10:43 PM

Here's my suggestion. If you go too much narrower, you'll have to get wheels anyway, so why not start by finding wheels that will let you use the width you want. I have 285/30/18s all around, no cutting on the fenders, just a minor tweak, with no rubbing at all. CCW 18x10, don't remember the exact offset, but I know that you need coilovers to get them on there.

i know several people running 275's up front..... it'll build your forearm strenght up a bit if you are running without PS.

nice i'm going to hopefully be running the same wheel/tire setup this summer..

roll the fenders..... even if you go with skinnier tires, from what i see in the pictures, you'll still be rubbing

I'm kind of confused with regard to your first sentance.. If I go too much narrower I'll need to get wheels anyway? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif But I have wheels?

I found the rare wheels I wanted- and knew ahead of time the offset wasn't perfect; I new the 275s would be a little tight in the rear.. just curious of peoples opinions on rolling the fenders.. not advice on a wheel/tire combo. But, thanks- I'll remember that next time. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png When the time comes to buy wheels for a specific purpose (like road racing) I already know what I need..

This is for looks - not purpose. I drive the car on the street - well, when it runs..

nightwolf_4_98 03-14-2005 07:50 AM

rolling the fenders should work fine.. i did that with my 510 when i had some meat in the back and only had rubbing issues when i had three people in the back, before rolling i had issues going over bumps faster then 10mph https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif its really not that hard, and serves its purpose well.. btw nice lookin tire's https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

PhoenixDownVII 03-14-2005 08:40 AM

I love that tread pattern, what kind of tires are they?

Your rear bumper's callin for some stock mudgaurds https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

TYSON 03-14-2005 09:02 AM

I don't think rolling the fender is going to do the trick.

What size are those tires anyway? It looks like they are plenty wide for that wheel, I would get skinnier tires and then check if you'll need to roll the fender anyway.

Cheers! 03-14-2005 09:42 AM

They are 275 40 17.

I think the wheels were designed for a 265 or 255..

You think I should try a 265? I don't know how much skinnier that'll be.. I think they'll do a little rubbing regardless - I'd just like to minimize how much I roll.. I guess I could be safe and just get the 255s.. They'll still look great - maybe better?

TYSON 03-14-2005 01:57 PM

Well by looking at Yokohamas specs a 255/40/17 would move the tire about 1/2" lower and 1/4" in for more clearance in either direction. Plus it's closer to the stock tire height.

I think you'll notice the shorter sidewall on the 255 more than you'll notice the change in width. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

I'm no expert, but judging from your "Naked Mudguard Missing" rear shot, it looks like, because of the 275 rubber, your sidewalls bow OUT a bit. Having 265 or 255 will make them more perfectly straight, which, to me, looks more badass than bubbling out or caving in (like some dorifto kid's setup).

Combine a super-flat, stiff, medium sized (yours is great, 2-3", not rubber band and not huge) sidewall with awesome V or lack thereof of tread marks, and you have a sweet looking tire.

Oh, and it may perform good too, or something.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

Sinful7 03-14-2005 05:38 PM

Yeah, if your sidewalls are pointed out like that then the tire's sidewall won't have as much deflection resistance. When you go around a corner or hit a bump the sidewall will give and flex and create unstable conditions. Sometimes it's not about trying to get the most rubber possible.. It's about properly sizing to match the wheel and car. While those tires aren't too oversized, I think a 265 would be better, but you may still need to roll the fenders.

9BASE3 03-14-2005 06:05 PM

Cool - Thanks for the replies! And the links TYSON. I think I'll go with the skinnier tire. They're just for the street anyway. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I'll put up some pictures as soon as I can afford them! LOL

TYSON 03-14-2005 06:42 PM

Trade them back in?

Fd3BOOST 03-14-2005 07:06 PM

265 and they will only rub over train tracks and what not. 275 and you should likely have to roll the fenders. Nice wheels btw. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

FikseRxSeven 03-14-2005 08:51 PM

just so you know.. avs100's have the widest thread width of any brand of its size... by a lot too, probably half an inch more than the typical 275's, you can check tire rack for the specs.

and as for rolling the fenders i must have gained 2 inches from the stock lip to where it is now when i rolled the fenders

did i miss what size those are? they look to be tipping into the rim as it is (sec width greater than rim width) going a bit narrower would not be a bad thing

What ride height is that set at BTW? Looks like about 26" to the wheel arch from the floor?

rolling the fenders should take a coupla hours AT MOST!!... you work at a body shop and you have to ask whether to roll them or buy smaller tires?....... i'm ashamed of you.

FikseRxSeven 03-17-2005 11:24 PM

ask dom if he wants to buy a fender roller... and ill ship it for you to use and you can take the money from him

Devil-FC 03-22-2005 05:57 PM

Strange.. why dont you run more -camber.... to clear out the fender. if you are too lazy and too afraid to damage your fender...

on my FD I have 18X10 25 offset with 265 tire. it clear my stock fender..... but I do have some more - camber compare to stock setting..
