Thumbs up

Im just about to send out a few things for ceramic coating. One item some people say to do....or not to do is the UIM. Well the way I look at it it cant do any harm (I hope LOL) and only help in keeping any heat away. I plan on doing both the outside and the inner of it.

My question is before i do this should i do any kind of porting on the UIM? I was told from someone to do it but i just want to make sure. Will giving the UIM a small port aid in anyway, or just leave it be? This is on a relativley stock car but if it helps in future use i will get it done now.

Any feedback kids??

thanx

Shawn

I've heard of one or two people having it done in a chrome finish. It may help save the wiring and vacuum hoses but the real heat and parts that should be daone are: Turbo manifold, exhaust manifold, downpipe and maybe the heat shields if you still retain them and want to spend more. You can allways buy heat coat in a spray can for those instead.

I am aware of the other parts for coating, and that is why i said I am sending the UIM out along with a few other things.

My question is about the porting of the UIM for greater flow?!

talk to jayspecracer7 about this...he put a cosmo 13b UIM and LIM on his 13BREW because the porting was much larger. Any reduction in restriction is a potential gain in power.

Thanx man........

Also...i was able to find out some info on this if any of you are wondering. This is something that should be done and is said to give about 20hp extra. Basically its just changing the holes on the UIM (top two). The bottom one is to be left alone but the top two that have the bar going through them is to be turned into one big oval. This is done by removing the seperating bar (should be done by a professional) between them and giving the UIM more flow

I port matched my upper and lower intake manifolds to the gaskets. I used a air powered grinder with a flapper sandpaper wheel.

Are you saying to use the gasket as a stencil? So should I take out the LIM also?? I have been told that if im doing the UIM that the TB should also be bored out. What you think?

Using the gasket for a stencil is a good idea because it shows you how far to go and still be able to seal it up well. If you're going to bore it out, it would be best to do all the components (LIM, UIM, TB). If you only do the LIM w/o porting the UIM and TB to match, its like having a big straw with two sponges in it....the early restrictions will take away from the benefit of the ported LIM hope that makes sense
