After the long wait for the release of the RX8 and some time for feedback, it is finally here. I am curious to know your opinions of which car is the better one. Is the RX8 worth the wait, or had the Generation III RX7 left you expecting too much?

Cheers.

sweet7 09-12-2005 02:37 AM

RX-8 "finally here" wtf? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

KingFD 09-12-2005 02:38 AM

I think you might be better off asking this question in the 8 forum. Most of the guys there I think are ex FD owners. They might be able to give you a fair comparison between them from experience.

Have never driven a 8 so couldn't say, but it really hasn't done alot for me in the looks and the performance department (well from what I've read), compared to my 7.

Note that I also said, "and some time for feedback". Meaning lets see if it stands the test of time. Theres no point in asking your opinion if it has only just been released, because you haven't had time to formulate one. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

nopistons94 09-12-2005 08:01 AM

where are you from ape

Shane.Trammell 09-12-2005 10:29 AM

car and driver just finished a long term test on one. it turned out pretty well, but its not really comparable to the fd. the fd is a fast sports car, and the 8 is a quick 4 seater thats more reliable.

Girlpowerrx8 09-12-2005 10:33 AM

I've driven both cars and found I like the Rx8 more. Not saying that the Rx7 isn't any good, it's quite a nice car to drive with plenty power, but the Rx8 is a nice family car if you have a child.

rotary_pwr 09-12-2005 10:06 PM

heh looking deeeeeeep inside me...i am forever an FC/FD at heart https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif of course thats not to say RX8 is not good...to me its the next best thing :P

Il RX8 lI 09-12-2005 10:08 PM

I own both currently, and I think the 8 makes a great DD, but if I want speed, the FD is superior for that.

That was a really good article. The only complaint that I remember is the oil being sucked up issue.

sweet7 09-13-2005 01:48 AM

The RX8 is cool, but if you want a pure, unadulterated, pavement eating sports car the FD is the only real choice.

APE RX7 09-13-2005 02:36 AM

I sold my RX7 today! ($34,350). https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif . I thought the price was good, I'm planning on spending the money on my WRX. It has already posted a 11.1 on street tyres so should be very impressive with a bit more cash on it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif .

Who thinks I should spend the money on another RX7? One that is a bit more streetable. And who thinks I should spend it on the Rex? Just curious to know what you guys think. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

GreyGT-C 09-13-2005 03:20 AM

if i wanted a family car.... i'd look into getting an rx8... HOWEVER... i don't plan to have kids within the next 38 years or so, so i prefer the sickening power of my FD instead.

SilverSeven 09-13-2005 04:26 AM

The 8 is too much of a compromise. I see it as the worst of both worlds. It won't whoop an Evo, yet it comfortably seats 3.68 people.

sweet7 09-13-2005 04:49 AM

I wanna see you're old FD and you're WRX.

34k? Mmmmm. I want to see a picture of the FD that's worth that. Better yet, I want the name and address of the buyer. Boy have I got a deal for them. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

As far as the RX8 goes. The styling has grown on me...alittle. At least there's no mistaking it for anything else. But the 'C' pillar design still looks odd to me and I agree with the others, it's not a "Sports Car" so much as a slightly under-powered 2 + 2 that handles well. FWIW, there's a track near my home but I've yet to see one there.

GreyGT-C 09-13-2005 07:39 AM

it's probably the 3rotor CYM FD that jsut sold a few days ago

OK. I could live with that. I hadn't considered a 3-rotor. But for a "standard" FD, even if heavily modded, that's a REALLY good price.

CS Fd 09-13-2005 10:57 AM

I had an FD and I've driven the RX-8. The 8 is way more comfortable, and works a lot better as a daily driver. The 8 feels underpowered, but the handling is exceptional I thought. The 8 can be a fun car to drive everyday, but don't try to race anyone at a stoplight. The 7 is what it is, a performance car. Its uncomfortable, unpractical, unreliable, and very fast in the straights and turns. So I guess the answer to which is better all depends on what you want in a car.

sweet7 09-13-2005 01:38 PM

I wouldnt even pay that for a 3-rotor. I'd spend twice as much as that and built it myself. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Why don't you just wait for the 2007 RX-7. I know it's still on the drawing boards but they might give it the green light. And if it doesn't happen you can always get the 2007 Inifinity GT-R aka the Nissan skyline GT-R.

Il RX8 lI 09-13-2005 09:38 PM

I answered quickly because I ***** this out when it gets late over here. Heh.

FC3SDrifter 09-14-2005 08:52 PM

I drove my friends RX8 (manuel tranny) it has a k&N typhoon intake (really loud) and a mid pipe, i think but it shoots flames. Nice car has a nice hum to it and the engine has a flat turque curve. He makes that car look bad, he can't even drive it right, damn kids. His parents bought that car for him like some of my other friends and sometimes i think they got into cars because of The fast and the furious like the rest of fakes out there. He even lost in a race with my friends stock rsx non type S automatic! sometimes i wanna befriend that kid https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

j9fd3s 09-14-2005 08:58 PM

they are very different cars but heres my opinion

the fd looks better, and its faster, but the rx8 handles way way better, and is a lot of fun to beat the crap out of, plus the 8 is simpler and easier to work on.

Do you guys have any idea what a mess it makes to get .68 of a people?

more than half but not quite three quarter. yuck!

Il RX8 lI 09-14-2005 09:09 PM

I'm able to fit 4 folks, 2 or 3 having girlfriends who need to sit in laps and they're in comfortably.

FC3SDrifter 09-14-2005 10:22 PM

The RX8 has a lot of wheel hop during hard acceleration from a stand still. And everybody knows the RX7 is the ultimate performer.

FC3SDrifter 09-14-2005 10:22 PM

glitch?

Il RX8 lI 09-14-2005 10:25 PM

During hard acceleration? Maybe if you go over uneven terrain through a turn, but she never hops on me. During a launch? Sure.

FC3SDrifter 09-14-2005 10:28 PM

Maby it was my friends tires?Or his driving?

Il RX8 lI 09-14-2005 10:33 PM

Maybe...even with the stock tires with almost zero tread, I could push it hard as hell through 1st and, unless it was around a turn or raining, never break traction.

FC3SDrifter 09-14-2005 10:39 PM

It was from a stand still and maby the bastard had the traction control on!

PhoenixDownVII 09-15-2005 10:19 AM

Well, given the idea that the Rx8 is NOT a replacement for the Rx7 (Hence the next designated digit) and the fact that I don't prefer to compare apples to oranges....I will not reply to this thread.

FC3SDrifter 09-15-2005 01:52 PM

Nice to see a FF7 fan in here. Did you see advent children yet?
