well the laws arnt based on age or power to weight ratio they have just said, you cant drive turbocharged cars, supercharged, v8 or high powered v6. So i will have to wait another 4 years just to get an rx7 =[?

Here's a post from someone in Victoria:

It doesn't go by piston or rotary... it goes by power to weight ratio... in our cases... we are only allowed to drive cars that have 125kw per ton... the FD is definitely over that! But their are new laws that is being introduced that state, those who have their license for the first year are not allowed to drive any form of turbo, v8, supercharged car... not that anyone actually obeys these laws... but yeah.

So you must fall into the later category. Either way, get a car which follows the laws.

Grandfathering means the older cars are still legal to own under the new laws. I did not know how the law works there.

I'm to understand there is a restriction in your operating licence for new drivers to limit them to lower powered cars the first

four years?

the power to weight ratio law was introduced in 1995, they've changed the power to weight ratio law to no V8, high powered v6, supercharge or turbocharged beacuse of police officers having to work out how much power per ton rah rah anyway it was in an article written by vicroads. 2turbos you know the old f150's - f350 was the last i think anyway the older models of them have something around 60kw and beacuse its got a V8 engine you cant drive them under the new laws. Only beacuse it says V8 but there are v6's here that have 190kw stock and your aloud to drive them. The whole system is stupid beacuse they havent exactly looked into the cars their authorising to drive, their just taking random guesses on their horsepower beacuse of the size of the engine.
