my mechanic now has the car but still can not diagnose the problem. all vacuum lines are new and correct. the car will run great and then will suddenly go to full rich, start missing and flood the plugs. the car is a stock, manual, 94 with a new motor (12k miles) and turbos (10k miles). the computer has been replaced with a mazda remaned unit. any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated.

I agree check your fuel dampner. More info can be found at www.Iluvmyrx7.com under manuals. You can then atleast maybe print out the correct way of testing it if hes not familiar.

Are you sure that your plugs are firing?

Thanks for the replies. The plugs are all firing. We're going to check the fuel damper and then go from there.

I have had about 3 FD's with this problem. It runs fine then it goes rich. You will find your self doing all kinds of trouble shooting. I found the problem to be, leaking primary injectors, but not from a BAD INJECTOR staying open. But from the LOWER O-RING in between the injector and the injector aluminium housing. The O-RING prevents the fuel from going over and around the O-RING causing a RICH condition. I have found the rubber O-RING to become brittle with manny tiny cracks and allowing the fuel to bypass and leak into the engine. No computer diagnostics will teach you this problem.. In my case it was basic instincs..

Hmm I'll make sure that I replace those before I stick it back in.

How would you check the fuel damper? I'm losing fuel but don't know from where...I can smell the fuel odor after i run it and while it's idling...I'm also getting poor performance. I'm not running Rich because there is no black smoke coming out the tailpipe at any time. But sometimes when i do start it up White smoke comes out for like 20 seconds and then stops. Any help would be appreciated!!!! JUDGE ITO!!?? Anyone?
