#15
I am still waiting for the info???? I have done alot of reseach into this and I don't think it is as easy as you are saying. I truly hope you can make this happen, but it isn't as cheap as you are saying.
Plus FD's aren't that cheap, at least 5k-18k depending on the shape it is in and yr.

Sorry for any delay gentlemen
As far as importing other cars like a said before if they are not on the list or if you don,t have $500,000 the crash test a few of the cars then I sorry i cann:t do much for you.
As far as prices go sorry about the extra 0.
A car is about $7500.00 (Us) cash just to buy the car plus .......... the rest of it to get it to the states.
When car makers and the government talk about emissions they are talking about California standards which are WAY high. So as long as you do not live in Cal changing the car setup to pass the state that you are in should not be a problem. But you do have to get it emissions tested In Japan then send the paper work to the EPA (US). Anyways all it takes is an
CD ignition system and pluging up a small vaccum hose to PASS in LA. AND a new cat wouldn`t hurt either.

AS far as Price goes the post of the car is only the tip of the ice burg. Thier are takes and fees that have to be paid just to drive it off the lot.
From the 93-95 there was a total of 15,000 rx-7 shipped to the states. While sales of the rx-7 have been going until last year. So you have Almost three times as many 3rd gen. The market in japan is driven not my the cost of the car but rather by the cost of operation. Regular gas goes for any were from $3.45 to 4.50 a gallon. Given about 3.7 liter = 1 gallon @ 91 to 105 yen per liter) Plus tolls which are around 350-2100 yen for any given highway for about 100 miles or so. PLUS INSURANCE. PLUS maintance(know here does there own oil changes). Plus shiken or two year registration which can be 50,000 to 210,000 yen depending on the size of you engine and worth of vechile. AND SINCE THE Japan is an econmic depresssion since 1989 and deflation has been going on for close to 5 years **** is cheap espeically gas hungry sports cars.
you car will have to be change when it get to the states but you won:t have to put anything crazy like new engine. Bummber mods, seat belt, DOT spec seats, LIGHTS that are DOT spec, AIR bag, Some glass needs to be changed, AMERICAN ODOmeter, and some other stuff maybe some welding a cross bar on the door.
you have a whole year to get all this stuff done before you have to ship it back or Complie.
if you think all this stuff sounds expensive you can get used ODOmeters
after market seats, new bulbs from autozone, seatbelts from a mazda place, and so on and son on one one said all this stuff has to be new it just has to complie . Do you homework if you feel that you can afford the time and money. And don`t let stupid people at the NHTS tell you something that makes you think you cann`t do it. It happened to me. I was in Japan a few years ago getting ready to ship one over then the NHTS people said that I couldn`t do it becuase it wasn`t crash test and then later i found out it was on the list I could have done it.

Importing a car that could be bough in the usa sounds like a lot of work...
avg. car 7,500
shipping 2,000
emmisions 1,500
door welds 400
lights $300
AirBag $400
GLASS = $$$
Aftermarket sear $640
Bumper Mods ???
=========
total = about $12,740 without bumper mods and glass...which are both no pennies to change.
and days of headackes.....
Buy the car in USA for 13,000
This is kinda of off topic but why is japan in a depression? This may sounds stupid to you but i really don't know...

I have been researching this a lot lately myself. Here is a question for all you guys in Japan (Dragon, Jason, J-spec). Are there any differences, body and frame wise, between the different model 2 seat 3rd gens? If, not according to what I've read There shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't import any model or year as long as it's not newer than 2001. What do you guys think?
