people say that the air pump helps feed air into the cat to help with emissions on cold starts...

is that accurate?

can i still pass emissions with the air pump removed?

You will not pass emissions without the airpump I don't think. I do know you'll burn up the cat without it........

the airpump pumps air into the exhaust ports between idle and about 2500rpms, and it goes directly to the cat under cruise and decel.

you will not pass smog without it

It will stink if you take out the air pump.

the middle part is sopposed to stop spinning at higher rpms. You dont need the extra air in the cat @ higher RPM's.

The airpump pully has a clutch that disengages it after a certain RPM

you can pass emissions without the airpump...but it's HARD. You'll need to tune out the fuel at idle and whatever RPM range they test the emissions at. If you run the a/f up to 14~ it should pass emissions without the airpimp. I run my driving range from 12.8 to 13.8 a/f. with the idle at 13.8
