Rebuilding The Alternator
#1
After taking my alt apart for powder-coating it stopped working.
I looked around for a used one, checked on line for a remanufactured one, and even checked the local part stores.
Here is what I found:
Used from other forum members = $50-$100 (all with at least 50K miles)
Online = $200
Local part stores = $250 (and a core charge)
Not wanting to chance having to take a new one apart just to get my powder-coated end caps switched out, I took mine to a local alt rebuild shop. (American Alternator and Battery) I even brought them the spray paint that I used on my old stator. They replaced all the internals and spray painted the new stator all for $65!
Yup that's 65 bucks! I couldn't believe it. Just to let everyone know...
