How come i see on websites that FDs were recalled for a cooling system upgrade and the radiator cap was changed from 1.3 bar to 0.9 bar..

Now i was thinking of getting an aftermarket better performing cap and i notice that greddy and Blitz are offering caps which are 1.3 and 1.2 bars respectively...

Why is that?

Also where should i get the caps from??

Also if i go for the Pettit racing AST...

What if after a very long drive or a hard run i turn the car off and open the hood and with the leveler cap vent the pressure.. would that be good or bad?? would that keep the temperatures cooler??

Any comments...

i dont think its a good idea to open either of hte caps after long runs, they will be under very high pressure

the recall went from 1.3 to .9 because the high pressure was thought to cause coolant leaks and then fire. the recall was the radiator cap, and the throttle body coolant lines, if the car needed it it also got a water pump, thermostat, and upper and lower radiator hoses. remember this was at about 20-30k miles so most of them needed everything.

basically the higher pressure caps will keep the car from boiling over after you turn it off, if yours doesnt do this a higher pressure cap will do nothing for you.

we've found that a normal 1.1 (15-16psi) cap fixes the boiling over after you turn it off

Ha ha yeah, go ahead and vent that cap after a long run and see what happens! Just make sure you stand back, my friend has a 3rd degree burn on his hand by venting the cap after a trip to the mall. Curiosity usually isn't something to mess around with when dealing with FDs.
