more side housing shots. the resize is making the photos look like garbage wtf? how do you get a full size pic on?

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
now that is open. do some balancing and rotor clearance

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
there were no signs of the rotors hitting the plates.

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
UPDATE on the re-build , I got it reassembled and am breaking it in with currently 300 miles on it . I still had a small random miss at idle ( it has had since i bought 7 years ago) which i thought was normal, i changed out to ls coils just because i was still suspicious of the ignition. sure enough the miss is gone and its the smoothest i have ever felt it, it gained vac and i can run afrs in the 13.5 to 14.0 range at idle before i could only ger 12.5 out of it before it would start to die. its also taking more fuel through out the rpm range. I will post more updates after a full breakin and full boost runs have been made !

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
car has been running great untill the last couple days , its been 95 or so latley and if i drive it for atleast an hour it will start to sputter under heavy load. the afrs go lean and 02 feedback starts to compensate but it almost feels like ignition again. the only thing thats changed since the rebuild is the coil setup, its now a sequential system with ls-1 coils at 6ms dwell. it took 6ms to get 45kv out off them and without it the car would reak up under boost . sorta stumped on it its hard to believe thats its the coils but i just dont know what else would be so heat dependent ? any thoughts would be appreciated

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
on a side note car still breaks up at 25 psi... foud ot that my alt is almost putting out 1.0 volt ac at 5k . not sure ifthis is my breakup but its def a problem. more money into the bottomless pit .

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
did some data logging and the battery volts were dropping to 12.6 at redline and would idle at 13.7 . i decided to put a new alt on it and while i was in there seperate the alt +lead away from the cas wires . i also re-routed my coil trigger wires as far away from the alt and cas as possible . I hate to get ahead of my self but it appers to have fixed it entirely . upon start up i noiticed it was running leaner. the batt voltage stayed at 14.5 at idle and would drop to 13.7 at red line . ac voltage stayed at .225 to .30 all the way up to redline. i got the boost up to 29 psi without break up and made 6-7 pulls with no issues . I'm crossing my fingers and hope it stays the way it is for more than a week !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
the car is now running worse than ever after 20 min of driving. starts to misfire and act like the timing is off. the boost gauge starts rising to 4-5 psi and bucking violently just while trying to make it off the road . it was so bad that my whole exhaust including the dp was glowing orange. seriosly thinking about just parting this pos out :dunno:

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
id leave it to the guys in the workshop before you go any further. 10 points for trying but at the end of the day if u blow another engine you wont be having any fun for a while.

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
thats he sad thing i am the work shop. this is what i do for a living and im at a loss of words. there have been very few cars that i havent been able to fix in the years and the fact that its my own erks me

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
timing issue ??? maybe you have a issue with the cas cable.
|
Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
harness is definetly in bad shape. i ended up having a corrupt map , the base timing was off 7-8 deg (retarded) hence the glowing manifold. sadly the damage was done while trying to find it , the front rotor is low on compression (50psi) the rear isnt much better. Tearing it back down and going with some goopy's and refub'd housings. I'm also going to do a rywire mil-spc harness while it's out .

tuff times!!!!

Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
I'm sure you probably already know this, but the aem fd trigger settings are not correct. Use these instead
Crank H sens Below "1600" Crank L Sens Above "1500" Cam H Sens Above "0" Cam L Sens Below "0" I use sync early "On" and Cam and Crank "Rising" edges are "on". AEM comes default with falling edges. if you change to Rising edges your Ignition Sync values almost goes to zero depending on your trigger wheel variance. I dont really think that it makes a difference. but the rising or falling edges will effect your timing marks. |
Re: THE QUEST FOR 500
Thanks, I wil definetly take a look. i know my sync was around 11.7 so it wasnt that far out . this setup has been run for almost 8 years now without any major issued , the problem ended up being my fault by not checking my sync when i installed the ls coils to run sequential. there was a big difference in dwell times swithching between the two. i guess mistakes are made and there were just too many changes made to relize it !
